    Looking for dead 24Ve

We're finally going to repower a Tige 24Ve with a Yanmar 6lpa-stp 315hp diesel but I need a boat!!! If anyone knows of a 24Ve that needs a new motor or has major damage please let me know, we've just started looking so obviously I haven't found anything yet. There will be photos and project write up during the whole process for all who care. Thanks

Does it matter where it got shot?

    Just kidding.

I'll let you repower my boat for free, and you can keep the old 6.0L engine too. RZ4...so it's the same thing essentially.

This Yanmar is such an awesome engine!!

Doesn't matter the damage really, we can fix it. Yeah, I have that engine in one of my ocean boats and have repowered a few boats with everything from Caterpillar C7-C18's to yanmars and I love them all but Yanmar fits the RPM profile better. This has been brewing in my head for a while and after this last lake powell trip, I want 12 MPG with the longevity of diesel. I'll keep you posted.

I have been in a Master Craft with a Yanmar. Was not impressed with the "Wakeboardability" of the boat. I have seen the Ynamar dealer here testing a few brands of wake/ski boats but the MC is the onlyone I have ever seen back on the water or had a chance to drive. I know Yanmar makes great engines and I would run one if I had an offshore fishing boat but I wouldnt want it in my wakeboat. But good luck in your search and project.

12MPG, our tige now burns 4.5gph at worst (that's with 89 octane, it burns 3.2gph with 87) while towing which translates to 4.89mpg and my estimates are conservatively at 12mpg. KKO I've been behind our 30' Mainship (13,500lbs, same Yanmar) at 19 knots on the ocean and even with her weight the hole shot wasn't too bad. That boat spins a 22X22 #8cup 5 blade with a 2.5:1 gear ratio and I figured it would be slow out of the hole and it really wasn't so my expectations for the Tige are very high. We're going to be running the Tige factory drive ratio, but not the walter or the borg warner, with a slightly larger pitch wheel and will tweak as required. What about the MC didn't you like? Was it a 4cylinder in that boat (there's no replacement for displacement regardless of HP and the biggest 4 banger Yanmar made was 240)? The beauty of diesel (mechanical injection diesel) incredible fuel economy, no worries about freakin' ethanol and long long long life. I put thousands of hours on all our boats annually but our 2100i isn't a candidate for this repower because of the boat design so she'll be up for sale as soon as we find the 24.

I wish my lake had diesel! The VW engine looks great as well.

You should also look for a 24v. They made them up to 2006.

Interesting read. I really wish I had an accurate fuel consumption gauge on my boat.

It had the 315Hp in it. It would struggle and then the turbo would kick in and would try and rip your arms out of the socket. Loading it back on the trailer was the biggest PIA ever!!!. Once at speed no issue but the take off was way crazy. The owner said you get use to it.He was happy with the fuel consupmtion..but funny thing was my Tige was still better. But I guess it was an improvement from what he was getting on gas. I hope it works out for you. IMPO you would have to save a ton on gas to offset the cost of one of these engines. I know they are not cheap. Engine cost more..fuel cost more. So to save in the long run you have to run some serious amount of hours to make it worth it. I know very few people that run this much....if any? Sorry not trying to crush your dreams..I undestand you have thought all this out and you into it. So like I said I hope it all works out for you. I am going to enjoy watching the build...If you can find a boat!

I got to see there test results with the CC and MC while they were testing various prop combinations, there 260hp got the best at 8.5gph the 310hp was close to 10gph, problem they were fighting was drivabilty , when proped for hole shot yank your arms off and over exseeded top end RPM, when proped for desent cruising hole shot for wakeboard was long drag until turbo spooled up, cost of up grade then was 22,000.00 installed .
As pertaining to the VW disel MC sold 16, 8 engines blew up so they dropped the option, heard that back working with Yanmar but havent seen anything yet.

We repowered a fish nautique 10 years ago from gas 350 to cummins 315 diesel and had to make it a v-drive in the existing inboard configuration. It gets around 15mpg cruising at 24 knots but again, the rpm profile of the cummins doesn't work. KKO, no worries on dream crushing, I do this for a living but have been trying to come up with the best combination for the past couple of years. As a cost comparison, we replace gas engines all the time and the cost is around $15k. I get the Yanmars for $13k and will be fabricating the engine bed and v-drive mount as the walter wouldn't last. I'm also going to beef the shaft up to 1.375 AQ22 (have some spares sitting around the shop) and run a ZF220V...

Could a change in transmission ratio fix that issue? It would seem that the right gear ratio with prop would work well. I would imagine a drop in top end speed would be pretty significant, but most of us care little about that anyway.
                            Be excellent to one another.

Did you ever surf the fish? It's a sweet looking hull for surfing. Got pictures of it as a v-drive?
