That sucks. Makes me think about looking into the safety release devices people have dicussed here before: http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13284

As a fishermen, I always enjoy checking the stomach of my catch as I clean them - this makes me think twice about doing that. Getting kids fingers caught in the rope is always a fear of mine, so I always watch for it. Sounds like the boat driver was not watching.

I love the Samson Bullet Release and run one on each line. At $99, they are nice peace of mind.

The problem is, they are not made anymore. There are none in stock and apparently no immediate plans to produce more. I assume this is a sales-related decision. I simply do not understand why those releases do not sell like crazy.

I think the biggest risk is taking a weird fall and getting wrapped in the line. Or a handle pass on a trick. Not everything is within control of the driver.

That is exactly what happened to me a couple months ago. When I fell the rope caught up on my leg and then sling-shotted thru my face - broke my nose, cheek bone, and a piece of my jaw. Good cut above my eye too.

Point being, I can't believe a quick release system is not sold with the tower, or like you said, I can't believe they don't sell like crazy. I'm going to find one.....
