Mussel Inspection

I am dropping the boat into a lake that requires an inspection, the lake has no service for steam cleaning there so I have to get it done or do it myself. The boat is 98% ran in the ocean so I know it will not pass right now.

Are there any places in the orange county, CA are that do this? If I have a pressure washer with a burner can I just do it myself. I would basically just do a top to bottom wash, spray the whole inside of the boat and under engine, basically every where I can reach.

The boat is a 2001 2100v, are there any places that hold water in the hull? How long does it need to sit and dry out? I am new to this inspection stuff so I have no idea what needs to be done and what they look for.

doesn't say anything about steam cleaning, just clean, drained and dry. I'd make sure it's that. bilge and ballast pumps especially. Don't want to flip on at the inspection and get a gurgle.

We launch at Castaic and Pyramid and they both require inspections. Make sure you pull your plug and dry out the entire hull, bilge pump, and also make sure all of your storage areas are dry. If there is even a little bit of moisture they will fail you.

I would recommend doing all this and then about 5 miles away from the lake check to make sure there is no water around the plug area or water intake that may have gotten wet in the drive.

Just to be safe, we are borrowing a buddies pressure washer with burner to steam clean the whole boat inside and out. We are doing this friday and drying everything and letting it sit all weekend. The boat will be dropped in the water tuesday so hopefully it is good by then. Ill probably throw a few towels in the bilge on the drive up.

Like others have mentioned, just make sure your plugs are out and the boat is "bone" dry.

At least where I live, you may as well not waste your time doing anything yourself. Especially getting the boat wet all over again. If they find any water in the boat, you are hosed. Especially with a Tige, getting that bilge dry is a major feat, unless you have a very steep hill to put it on for a few minutes.

I think that the inspection will be mostly to confirm that your boat is bone dry and that there are not any large chunks of mud or organic debris that could harvest a stowaway mussel. So, IMHO, if the boat is relatively clean and is bone dry already, you can only shoot yourself in the foot by putting more water in it. They are not going to believe your receipt from the car wash that the water is not from some evil infested place.
