Ya. So anyways, Congrats on the boat 550. It's got some pretty cool mods in it. It should be a nice boat for ya.

I have a stock Duramax but $1,500 is nothing compared to the cost of a blown Allison transmission is!

That's why I'm glad I bought my Cummins engine (which came wrapped in a Dodge 3500) in the narrow window when Chrysler was associated with Mercedes-Benz. During that time they used an Mercedes-Benz manual transmission called the G56 that was designed for the MEDIUM-duty trucks that MB themselves manufacture. MB's writeup for the transmission says:

MB's recommended applications for the G56 are "light vehicles, from 7 to 10 tons, and medium ones from 11 to 12 tons."
It's massive overkill for my truck, which is just fine with me because that means it will never be stressed beyond its limits and should be bulletproof reliable.

That's great but my wife doesn't want to drive a 6-speed manual transmission diesel truck to work every day. I drive the other diesel, the TDI Passat. I am 90% happy with my truck, 5% on the mileage and 5% on the ride quality vs 1/2 ton truck. 90% is good for me.

I wasn't suggesting you should, just agreeing that blown Allison transmissions are expensive to repair and why I'm hopeful I won't have to face that situation.
