2012 MC's have a an indicator light in the speedo or tach that in indicate N F or R for what "gear" you're in. Can anyone explain why I would ever need such a thing?

And let's not forget it. Comparable tiges are still about 5/10/15k less than there counterparts from the big 3. They're in the middle ground between the price points and the high end. This is obviously area and dealer dependant as wel

Most people think its dumb to get a new boat anyhow, Tigé is trying to entice folks to buy new with the 360 warranty but it sounds like that warranty is not transferable so I bet that is holding some back from buying a new Tigé or even buying a used one still under the original warranty.

Why would the 360 not being transferable keep me from buying a 2yr old Tige? I would be in the same position with any other 2yr old boat I bought. Right? I think its a plus that the boat had it. It gives it a better chance of ALL the maint.being done the RIGHT way.

Why would it not being transferable keep me from buying a new Tige if the boat fit my needs and budget why would I care?

It wouldn't stop me but that is a comment that I have read on a few posts on this site and lots of posts on WW.

The engine warranty is transferable, as is with the other manufacturers.

Do you know if that is applicable when importing a boat from US to Canada?

It seems that people that can buy a 50-60K boat don't have much trouble stepping up to 90K these days.
Price is a key concern to me. I simply do not get on the water enough to pay premium prices especially $90k so if can decorate the storage facility or my garage for 6 months a year.

I have been searching for a replacement for the 20V I had. I am restickted to a 20-21 foot boat with trailer tongue folded. If I go back to Tige I will wait until a used 2010 falls into the price level I will spend. I have not ruled out Moomba and Centurian either. Moomba 2009 or newer and Centurian 2008 or newer. Bling is nice but electric hatches, dashboards and other fluff doe not make tr boat more efficient.

Another way to ask the question is what can the average boater afford for a boat that spend on a 20-21 foot ski/wakebpard boat that sits in storage for 4 months or so. Eliminating some bling will make a boat less expensive but $50k or more for an RZR and a little less for an R20 are pushing the price envelope significantly.:

What really cracks me up is when you compare a new tournament style ski boat with an old tournament style ski boat. Ski boats have much less materials than a wakeboard/surf boat, no ballast or additional plumbing & wiring, no tower, and no fancy stereo or lighting. But they still seemed to be ridiculously priced. A new MC 197 or Malibu TXI I believe will run $60-80K, and for my skiing level my $8-9K Tige does the same thing, just a few less bells and whistles. I'll keep my paid for boat until my money tree grows quite a bit more.

I wonder if it's "feature creep" like happened in the automotive industry. A while back things like automatic door locks and powered windows were extra-cost options, if they were even available for the model you were considering (usually not in my price range!). I remember having a Honda Civic back in the 90's that had exactly one electric motor that I could think of: The starter on the engine. (There may have been more, but you get my point.)

Today, even the most basic models have all sorts of powered, automatic, option-like features. You almost can't get a vehicle without them. Try to buy a vehicle today without a radio. How about one that has standard, reliable, cable-driven ventilation controls instead of vacuum hoses, motorized dampers and valves, etc.

When I was buying my truck, I told the dealer I wanted manual windows. They said it would be a special order from the factory, if they could get it at all! When I asked why, they said additional "standard equipment" justified a higher factory base price.

I wonder if boats have gone the same route. For whatever reason, the factory base price needs/wants to go up. To somewhat "hide" that, they glom on a bunch of expensive (or perhaps expensive-looking) features. "Yes, the sticker has gone up, but look how tricked out it is! You don't have to buy all those options, they're already included!"

                    Just wondering....

Went around the boat show this past weekend and really was shocked. Prior to this weekend I agreed that ski/wake boats are pushing the limits when it comes to the money they are asking. Its just not the case. All boats are getting pricey IMPO. I got to see a $110,000 pontoon boat (31ft long 10ft wide w/upper deck and a slide)its little brother 25ft was 68K a 17ft no frills bare bones bass boat for 30K, a 20ft searay with a tower for 48k. I would say the Tige 2013 R20/46.5k was the deal of the show! The 2012 moomba mobius/47.5k . Although they were the nicest Moombas I have seen they didnt compare to the quality of a Tige. Saw a G23 for a 115K. Its a odd looking boat on the outside IMPO. The layout inside was nice. This thing was and ugly color combo with the fake teak flooring stuff on a green and silver boat and it really was a crappy combo IMPO. The new Xstar was over $160k (w/o power tower)and had to be the most over hyped over priced boat I have ever seen.
So say you look @ a Z3/90K and the you look at a G23/115K and then the Xstar/160K. A 25-70K difference in pice. No way in hell those boats are that much better (If at all) than a Z3.
I am in and out of these boats every day and Tige builds them as well and in most cases better than the rest. They stand behind their product like no other boat company I have delt with and thats why I own one and will always be my boat of choice.

As WABoated coined in his post "feature creep" probably has a lot to do with the high cost of boats. Cost for simple recessed cleats at over $120 a cleat plus labor, cost of tower speakers, ski pylon for the R20, Taps Plate for the R20 and so on just keep inflating the prices of a boat so fast my head spins. My first 19' Searay with Sport seating ran me around $17K with trailer, 5.0L Volvo Penta, covers, biminni and bow cushions. A similar SeaRay now would run $32K+ and the bling factor doesn't even apply. A $15K increase in price is really inflated. Niceties or bling of stainless cup holders, underwater LED's,LED sharkeye NAV lights vs incadescent all just pump up the cost to the consumer. I was contemplating buying an RZR to replace my 20V to gain a little bow space and a few other features like cockpit grab rails as an example. On the RZR I did not want Tige Touch or a few other feature creep items. Unfortunately if I wanted grab handles I had to take on Tige Touch which I don't need or want. I want grab handles so my passengers have something to hold onto if I turn at high speeds. You cant get the handles on the R20 so it is a take it or leave it proposition. Needless to say I left it and am having the side panels in my 20V redesigned by a local shop to install tweeters, grab handles and side pocket storage vs a new boat. I am a rarity in the fact that I like the handling and performance of an inboard but really don't care about wakeboarding or surfing. I like an inboard that turns on a dime, has a great holeshot and has the power to yank up any slalom skier. Old school I guess. I really don't want a direct drive because I like the apace in a v-drive with tracking fins. I have come to the conclusion that in many ways I am better of modifying my current boat to add what I want and skip things like balast and Tige Touch that I don't need. In the long run I will be money ahead. The old 20V with interior updates like stiffer foam in key seating areas will be considerably cheaper than a new R20/RZR Supra, or even a Outback V. The bfl is that manufacturers include items that would be better served as options and similar to auto insustry have option packages. When a Z3 cost more that nice homes in rural America there is a problem IMO.

I know some of the cost factors had to do with goverment regulations , gel coat was driven up in price, brass, infact all the brass products we buy like drain plugs come with a warning label, may cause cancer handle with gloves, the addition of cats. on the motors was a big chunck and word is we will see sealed fuel tanks shortly with evap. systems.
And if health care stays the same there will be major cost to the manufacturers in increased taxes IMOP.
