How to spot an early build Z3

After reading several posts on here, I've started getting a little leary about whether or not I am one of the unlucky few who ended up with an early model Z3. What are the noticeable differences between the first few models, and say the ones like ragboy's boat?

The early ones have chines at the rear and the later ones do not. Post up a pic of your transom and we can tell you if you have an early one or a late one.

Actually, I just happen to have pictures to show the difference.

Now that is service! Just in case someone was confused, the bottom pic is the newer version.
          Be excellent to one another.

My browser shows Timmy's pics side-by-side. I assume the one on the right is the newer version?

On the newer version, in addition to the outside chine being removed, it looks like the entire hull has a shallower angle. Or, is that just an optical illusion?

I think that is because they didn't "chop off" the chine, they basically "filled in" the space.

Which explains why less list is required to get a similar wave. List drops the angle of the hull, so it is more horizontal. If Tige "filled in" that area, then the angle is already lower so it takes less tilt to achieve the same relationship to the water.

Soon we'll all be surfing behind flat-bottomed bass boats....

There are several changes to the hull, but the chines is the easiest thing to see. I believe the first version didn't have the spray knockers up front also, not sure.

So what did eliminating the chine actually do? How bad did it affect the wave and what affect did it have on the wakeboard wake, if any?

I would love to know if removing the chine vs filling it in would make it better or worse.

For one thing, the chines made the wake more turbulent. There was like a air tunnel inside the wave from air in that chine, and RJ said you couldn't see the difference between chine/no chine as much as you could actually feel it under your feet. I can't answer anything regarding the wakeboard wake.

Do we know for sure how many versions there are of this hull? It seems to me that there could be 3 versions. The one I have a picture of that has chines, the people use just fine for surfing and wakeboarding so I am wondering if it is different than the original version that you had ragboy.

I think there are only 2, we surfed and tested 3. That original black/green one I had, matched the hull of the first production version, but it may have been a one off. It was created for brochure shots and stuff, and may have had other changes after it, but technically I don't think that first black/green one was considered "production". But I do know the first production matched that black/green as far as the hull goes (other than maybe the spay knockers).

Then we tested a version that was basically the same black/green boat in an "altered" state, then we tested the version that is now in production, which we have now.

Now I'm really pissed!!! I thought it was odd that my boat wouldn't do what everyone else's was with the same weight in the same places. Mine looks exactly like the first pic

It's nothing that a grinder and duct tape couldn't fix!
