looking to buy 2001 Tige 22I

Hello guys.. I am just looking for a little advice from a great forum. I am looking at purchasing this 2001 22I. It has 170 hours on it. We will be adding a tower and some ballast to make a good wakeboard boat out of it. Do you feel these make good wakeboard boats. We have settled on $14.5k for the boat seem like a good deal?? And also is the 2001 a new hull design?? Any info you guys could give me would be great. I hope to be around for awhile... Thanks again

Looks like its in pretty good shape. What size of motor does it have in it? I have a 04' 21i with the 6.0L 375hp motor. It needs a different pitch prop for a whole shot with weight in the boat. Mine has heater, tower, and shower on it but the upholstery needs replaced which will be about 3k and I paid 18,500 for mine this summer. Hope that helps on where your at with the price.

Welcome to the site and good luck.

I noticed the spray pockets. You may want to do a search on here, several have filled them in. I can't recall if they affect the wakeboard wake or the surf wave.

If it runs good, the price seems fair. I would demo it and do what you intend to do behind it. If it doesn't have the extend a pylon then you will most likely want a tower and that could set you back approximately $2K.

Bryce, does yours have the spray pockets?

Thats a clean boat, and 170hrs is nothing. What kind of wakeboarder are you? I have a 97 pre2150 brother has a 01 20i. For me they throw a big enough wake especially throw some ballast or load the back seat with people. Surf wake is OK on mine with about 1500-2000#s but Im just learning how to surf. Only think wiht the style of hull you have to watch is taking rollers over the bow. THe bow sits very low in the water. So when you pick up your rider keep on the trottle till you go back into your wake, or you will take water over the bow. Most of the time espeically once you get use to the boat thats not a big deal at all, but it will happen more than you would expect. But bilge pump takes care of it. Spray pockets havent really been an issue so far with ours. Filled in they would create a better surf wake I would think. 02 or 03 is when they changed the hull designs I think.

Looks like a 21i to me...

The 22i has one of the best wakeboard wakes you will find for a direct drive boat.

Thanks for the help guys.. I think this may be the one to get..

Hey guys i have one more question... I had the seller send me over the hull id# so i could get a quote on insurance on it and the number was t1xe3660k900 so does this just make it a 00 built boat and title a 2001?? Dont really know if it matter from 00 to 01 but I am getting ready to spend a lot of cash and want to make the right decesion..And when you look up the NADA guide there is a little difference in price..
                      Thanks again guys..

It should be tix not t1x. Olso it should be a 2000 not a 2001. If he has a title that says 2001 and a hull thats says 2000. Your best bet is to send Tige the Hull # they will be able to tell you about the boat.

You are 100% correct!!!! After a email he blamed it on his wife (dont we all) on putting 2001 in the ad instead of 2000. I still dont think it matter it is still clean and maybe I will be able to get him to take a couple bucks off or so..
                          thanks

Yup. 2000 22i. That's the 2000 only dash for that hull. It's even missing the clunky old JVC remote. That's a good thing. You want these old ones as naked as possible as any type of "period" accessory would likely need replaced anyway. Tower, stereo, what not. Speaking of which, are there four speakers in the boat? I only see two. That would be odd. It has the factory rears but, there should another set. One in the driver kick panel and one opposite the rear on the starboard panel. Trippy. The bimini mounts can be fixed easily. You'll want your bimini to be tower mounted. A good canvas shop might even be able to make a new tower mounted frame for somewhat cheap for your old bimini if you don't get a new one with the tower. A Samson tower will set you back more than the rest but, do it once, be done with it. A good tower is worth every penny. That boat is a great find it its for real.

Be sure to drive it. 170 hours is way low. Did it sit for any extended amount of time? I have 530 on mine and that's good low. Boats, just like cars, need to be driven. Driving it will tell you a lot. I would also have it checked by a reputable marine mechanic.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Performance wise, its not going to be the best at anything. What it will do is everything decently.

It'll throw a nice big, rampy wakeboard wake. It will have a little wash at the top but, its not a deal killer by any means. It has a really long transitions and a really wide table. On the rare occasion I do wakeboard, I like a 70' line, 23mph, taps 8 to 6. I've got ~900# in the back of mine currently (all below decks ) I try to run 200 in people up front. Being a D-drive, a little bow weight goes a long way. Is it a pro-level wake? No. Can you go out and have something to bash around on. Yup.

Surfwakes are not pro-level either. For an old D-Drive though? Hell ya. I surf mine all the time. I've been surfing it since '03, I think? '04 maybe. Way back when? I've surfed a few boats in that time and the shape of the wave from this old Tige is fantastic. Size is the issue and weight is the answer. Ballast mods are fun. I've actually just been running my wakeboard setup, ballast wise. Fill both sides, put your fattest occupant with friend in the corner, 10.6 mph, taps on 4-6. There's probably 7'-8' of good usable pocket. A fast board also goes a long way. Once again, worth the extra coin. Anyways, Pro-level? No. Surfable D-drive? Yer damn Skippy! I see people all time with the latest and greatest boats, out there struglin. Driving around circles and hanging on the rope. Meanwhile, we're surfing across the lake in our 12yo D-Drive.

I don't know if you slalom or not but we do. It's been through the course a few times this year. It's f'n tank for a slalom boat but, once again, 100% doable.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.
