[QUOTE=Ewok;642275]The list and combo of the trim tab will not make the wave bigger, it wil probably change the shape

Ewok, I understand the theory. But as a scientist I am asking if anyone has tested it. The two together may be additive. Do we know?

The surfgate adds running length to the hull on the one side which is really it's purpose, it's adds length which makes the wake on the one side longer and when they converge at different points, it creates the wave.

Anybody have experience with king starboard? What size will be strong enough to make the gate out of?

I have used lots of Starboard. I would not consider using it for this application. It does flex under load, and it cracks abruptly when pushed past its breaking point.

You might be able to get away with it if you reinforced it with aluminum angle or something similar. That's how I got away with using it for things like my battery shelf - in that case, with really heavy batteries involved, I used stout stainless steel angle to transfer the load to the engine stringers.

Frankly, I'd use something inherently strong enough to keep it simple.

I would think .75 HDPE at least.

I agree with Chap, and if you utilize the "bigger is better" engineering idea, go with 1".

So Ive been looking into this. If it works well on the temp versions of it, would getting to trim tabs and actuators, mounting them sideways create the same effect? Any one know what the wash is like when wakeboarding when retracted? Seems like it would have to creat some wash or something even straight

While I was testing mine I did adjust it in the closed position and checked the wakeboard wake and there was no effect on the wake. What I didn't do is have a gate installed on both sides while surfing (closed gate on surf side and deployed gate on non surf side) so I can not tell you if there is a effect on the surf wave with the gate installed but in the closed position on the surf side. Im sure that there is some effect and it may be good but i didn't think to check it.

Does it side load the platform much? I think while Im doing all the other upgrades this winter Im going to have to build a few test gates to see what it does on a DDrive.

Any updates on this? Seemed like it was working well. Just curious if you ever made a permanent version.

Bunch of people on the Malibu forum have done DIY Surfgates and NSS systems. All with success. May want to lurk over there.

I made prototypes of both. Both worked, but the surfgate had 3 problems. 1 it causes a lot more spray, 2 it's very hard to turn against, 3 it's hard to make it small enough not to be in the way but still function.

The NSS plate was small and compact. Never knew it was there when not in use. Didn't affect steering at all. I couldn't make my NSS plate as large as I would have liked since platform was in the way but it still did the job. Oh and basically no spray. Working on a better version, that is if I get some time. I will say I still used it listed.

He's correct lots of testing on the Bu forum. Some really nice examples of both.

I did this on my 22V. I tried both styles and ended up with an NSS style design for the exact same 3 reasons listed by Ruger. The wake seems to be just as good if not a little better with the NSS design. Pics of my current setup are below. Eventually I might do a cleaner install with metal plates and electric actuators but this is very functional and the install was pretty easy.

Interesting for sure. Do you have any pics of the wave?

This one is from the first test run so I didnt really have it dialed in and the lake was complete blown out but overall I have been very happy with the wave. I also think it would only get better with more weight. I have 750lb bags in the rear and both sides were probably filled to about 650lbs in that pic plus probably about 500lbs of bow weight. I still need to play with TAPs and speed to find the best settings.
