Topaz... my crew is bailing on me in a couple of weeks and I'd love to get down to check your your setup weekend after next (9/8 or 9/9)?

I wonder if the FAE mounting bar would serve as an acceptable mud flap mounting point? Perhaps with a removable set of ring clips to be able to take the flap on and off easily.
I wonder if the mud flap could be lengthened to extend just past the trailing (rear) edge of the swim platform for those of us with pre-2011 no smooth edge fiberglass platforms?
Finally, I wonder if a mud flap with an "ear" that extended laterally past one side edge of the swim platform could be configured to as to provide at least some "delayed convergence" of the wake? Problem would be in switching sides (unless two ears with means to engage/disengage).

My fear with the fae brackets is they might be to weak to support the heavy flap and the drag it creates. It is also just thru bolted to it but my next one might have a removable set up. Have to wait and see what I come up with.

That FAE aluminum bar seems pretty darn tough to me. As for drag, there should not be a huge amount given that the rubber is flat (assuming no bolt on weights or other drag inducing mods) and adheres to the shape of the platform above it. I think it would be much less force than exerted by the FAE itself, which projects down past the bottom of the boat.

they don't seem to have any effect at wakeboard speeds. The stall mat is the way to go if you do this IMHO. We made it wide and long and then surfed it and cut it as we went to make it catch everything. No weight on the bottom, it is so thick and heavy that it just catches everything where the mudflap like the ones pictured didn't work as well for us. Squid was the one saw our flap and then tried a stall mat and turned us on to that.http://wake9.com/

here's my 'Wake Rake'..also poached the idea from the Duf'..Used serious stiff multi ply conveyor belt rubber from Delta Rubber in RENO. Mounted on the platform frame>
Metal pieces are some space age hi tech bad *** aluminum I got off the net for next to nothing. All bolts/nuts/washers are stainless of course. I cut the the shape to mimic the boat hull
From the inside...rubber is sandwiched by another strip of alu'.
It def' smooths out the wave. I might make it longer next time...and a few inches wider extending down into the wave moreLast edited by MooseX; 08-25-2012, 09:46 PM.my midlife crisis started at puberty and I plan on enjoying it all the way to the end..
