    2007 or 2008 RZ4 - does it matter?

We are looking at buying a 2007 RZ4. If I am correct, that was the first year of the RZ4 model. Is that a great boat? Were there further key refinements in the 2008 model?

Our biggest use will be a great Wake Surf. Will the RZ4 deliver?

    Thanks!

Check the last two digits of the HIN. 08 was the first official model year for the RZ4 IIRC. RZ2 came out in 07.

But either way, there were not to much changed from 07 to 08. Vinyl was really about it. Tige switched from Kicker speakers to Wet Sounds. Engine was still MP and still used Tige Speed-Set.

Surf wake has great potential, just needs weight. You are better off with a model that does NOT have factory ballast.

I thought that, too, but someone corrected me a little while ago. There were a few RZ4s that were produced as '07 boats.

To clarify, it's better to find one of these model years without factory ballast so that it will be easier to add in a big ballast system on your own.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't doubt there where some RZ4's with an 07 HID. There was a pic here awhile back of an 05 Ve with the short windshield and tower spread like the V had.

So it sounds like RZ4 2007 is fine, and that maybe we want to add in our own ballasts? Were the factory ballasts not effective for wake surf?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

The factory tank offered only 250# for surfing. But, they were along the transom, which forced the batteries on the port side and the TAPS motor on the starboard, out in to the V-drive locker. This made it tough to fit an effective ballast sac that yielded enough weight to get a good wake.
