    Homegrown FAE

Just a thought: What about routing the exhaust through the bottom of the boat? Don't know if there are any hardware options, but the photos are of hardware that comes in 3" diameter tubing. Use a nipple and trim the through hull down a bit and you have two exhaust ports. The through hulls even come in a flush mount.

The ports will push exhaust below the water line while the boat is on plane. Of course then you have two giant holes in the boat at the transom, but hey it's just an idea. The diameter could also be an issue, I haven't measured mine in a while, but I think they are closer to 4" -- could be wrong. I'm sure that someone makes a through hull in a larger diameter. Never seen anything like this.........

I have and love my FAE. What do you guys think about this? I'm sure that someone could order a boat without the exhaust ports cut out.

You would run a higher risk of forcing water up the risers and back into the cylinders causing massive engine failure. Also the engine exhaust air would disturb the hulls ability to track in the water, I would think the boat would dance around on a bubble of air as it made its exit. It would almost need a molded channel to make sure it followed the same path, but that would even be unpredictable depending on water conditions.

I know epic boats tried this. Something happens at low speed or stopped that messes everything up. Maybe someone has more info.
