Converted cobalt, uses the water cooling to keep batteries and motor at best operating temp. I have to agree with the founder that recreational boats make more since than cars to go electric first.

I like the Epic and Nautique versions better. The FAQ on the Purewatercraft website says it gets 1 hour at 20-30 mph. If you watch the videos on the website it shows the motor is actually on the top of the stern drive, its an electric outboard. I think this boat tries to maintain the performance of a Cobalt and doesn't use enough battery packs to give the boat 3-4 hours on the water to make it usable.

But it's a great idea to use raw water to cool the batteries and the motor. It also makes more sense in a boat since boats care more about torque, and an electric motor delivers almost 100% torque instantly. My only concern about electric boats is electricity in the water. This thread has me a little nervous about electric boats. I'm not an EE guy so I don't know much about electricity in the water except you cant really tell if it's safe to jump in or not. I guess electric boats will need a tester of some sort to tell if the water is ok to jump into.

Yea the pure is a converted cobalt which they said they would not build the hull that way. It is just good to see some people working on it and helping progress the technology. The performance we look for in a wake boat is a ways off.

But just think of all the ballast a bank of batteries that last 8 hours would provide. Right hull design, batteries as ballast, and the progression of ideas like the surf gate to shape and establish the wake or wave and you certainly see some potential.

Maybe someone will jump way out of the box and approach the thing we all seek (perfect wake or wave, an awesome cabin design for the crew, smart storage, and a banging stereo) from a new angle, instead of slow iteration an existing platforms, or just factory installing what their customers are doing after market. Innovation is always good, even when it fails.
