Buying Boat with New Motor... Please Help

I found a boat I would like to purchase just want so help.....

It's a 2006 22VE with 202 total boat hours and 20 hours on a new motor (not rebuilt) which was due to not getting winterized.

    What would you do?

    Thanks for your input.

As long as the motor was put in at a reputable shop, I don't think there's any reason to worry. Does the new motor come with the factory warranty? working at a dealership, our service department has done this before, and when we have a new motor from the factory that we put in, it's always covered with the 3 year warranty that is standard for new motors. So I guess what I'm saying is, if you really like the boat, and you know the motor was installed at a good shop w/ a warranty, I say go for it.

My only concern would be what else wasn't done. If they didn't winterize it did they not do other routine maintenance. Pull the service records and find out. A new motor really isn't that big of a deal. Just make sure everything else is good to go.

It wouldnt hold me back a bit especially since it was a direct swap and if done by a qualified shop. I would ask what kind of warranty aplies to the workmanship if anything were to happen in the first ( ) hours

X2 on if it was a good shop shouldn't be an issue.

The only other thing to consider and why I steered clear of anything with a rebuilt or new engine was if I had to sell my boat I would have people that would have the same concerns your asking about. I didn't want that to be an issue or point to lose a sell if I needed to sell it. Just my opinion.

Although those of us who know anything aren't concerned about a new motor only, the general public freaks out, so selling is not as easy. I had a boat with a new motor, you would think people would be ecstatic to have a motor 3 model years newer than the boat is, but it was always the first question when I was trying to sell it, and I think it really killed some sales, even though it was replaced under warranty due to a manufacturer defect.

So what I am saying, is that it will take longer to sell, and probably at a reduced price.

I do wonder what else was not maintained properly if they couldn't winterize a $50,000 toy, what is wrong with these people?
