    blower

Our blower is making a bad sound, and I suspect we'll have to replace it. Is it proper to run our blower all the time or only before start up and for a few minutes afterwards? Are the blower motors built to run full time?

mine had the same problem, the blower fan simply fell off the rotor and i found it in the bottom hull just under the motor, easy fix and it runs good again. hope yours is that simple.

I run mine a few minutes before startup and then I leave it running the whole time the boat is running.

My manual says to run it before starting the boat and whenever you are at idle.

          X2.

The blowers that come with our boats are not designed for continuous duty, they are cheap inline blowers with the minimum CFM for the boats. I replaced the blower in my old boat after 10 years or use and replaced it with this:

Or something similar to the above. It was quieter and had a greater CFM and the one I installed was rated for continuous duty.

Right or wrong, my technique is to run the blower all the time the engine is on to supply the engine with cooler fresh air and to attempt to reduce the temperature in the engine compartment. Since the blower pulls air from the bottom of the bilge and the hot air is at the top of the compartment it might not make a huge difference but it's better than nothing I figure.

Check your fuse. Mine went out as well and dealer put in a new fuse during my 25 hour maintenance.

Anything controlled through the Medallion unit is fused through it. The unit is on the wall under the helm. Pop the cover off to reveal the fuses.

The blower also has another inline fuse buried in the nest of wires under the dash.If madallion fuse is good you might wanna check that.

I always run my blower before I start it up and when I'm idling. The purpose is to exhaust any fumes that may have built up and could cause an explosion. Once you are up at speed, you'll be getting more than enough air without the blower on.

2000 20ci Missouri Ozarks. I run my blower all the time. A couple of times over the last 2 years the temp under the hood was 116 degrees plus. The motor would vapor lock and not run. When I run the blower all the time this problem has not happened. M&M
