    Fuel Gauge

What's the deal with my fuel gauge? While I'm in idle it will show ~ 30 % but when we are wakeboarding it will drop to 0 %??? I know the gas shifts in the tank but 30% worth? This is an uneasy feeling when you're out on the lake ... let me know if this is a frequent occurrence or if I should get my dealer to look at it.

The gas gauge should always be considered unreliable. I fill up on the way to the lake every time. Sometime my gas gauge reads 60% and then it takes 35 gal to fill the 48 gal tank, much less than 60% was remaining in the tank. But theoretically when you are at rest on the water is when it is supposed to show most accurately.

I experience that same thing....typical...my gauge is analog but reads quite a bit lower when running but accurate when idling. I know when I am at a 1/4 tank I have 10 gals left and need to head to a marina. My stays at the lake but the marina I keep it at has the highest gas prices so I always go down to the next marina where it is .40 cheaper a gal....

Yup, mine pretty much always tells me I'm full, but after a long day on the water I start to doubt its accuracy, so I fill up every time I go out.

I'm not sure why they waste the valuable dash space for fuel gauges?

Long narrow tank with sensor up front. Bow rises, gas goes to rear, gauge goes down. I was empty the other week and decided to take a peek inside to see how much gas was actually left......about 7 gallons. I call that a nice reserve. The sensor never touched the bottom either.

I have a Faria Fuel Management gauge on my boat that keeps track of how much fuel you're burning and have left in the tank. You have to calibrate it right away to match your tank size.

Here you go - The guy I bought the boat off of did this. The only thing I don't like is that he removed the Taps gauge to install this. He did it because he took long trips in the boat and like most he was concerned about the fluctuating gas gauge and running out of gas.

I installed one of those on my old boat, worked great, very easy to do on a carb engine and mine was only 150-200 bucks or something. For EFI, you need an upgraded FF system with two sensors and it costs around 700+. Someday I'll put one in my boat, until then I fill up before every trip.
