    2004 22V Riders Mechanical issues

Took the boat out for the first run of surfing Saturday with my friends daughters who were up for the weekend. Boat took off fine the perfect pass leveled off at 9.8 and then I lost power. Thought something happen to the perfect pass so turned it off. Started again and it wouldnt do more than 5mph then quit. I opened the engine compartment and noticed that a rubber sleeve on one of my ballast hoses had melted from the metal shroud on the engine (GM 5.7L). I figured it must have been an impeller that went out. Called my marina and they are going to try and find a part and come out and fix it.

Does this sound like an impeller? What should I expect to be charged for an impeller and installation. Just want to make sure the marina is being fair. Are the impellers hard to find?

    Any help will be appreciated.

Also, my marina just called having trouble cross referencing the impeller part. They use a sierra cross reference for the parts company.

Question, does anyone know the sierra cross ref part # for a water/sea pump for the 2004 22v Riders???

Would be a big help.....if they have to order from another dealer wont get the part in time for this weekend.

Impellers are very easy to find. Paying marina price the part shouldn't cost you more than $75 I would imagine. Not sure how hard it is to change on that boat.

Did you happen to see what your temp gauge was reading? An impeller would be the most common reason for overheating for sure, and that would explain why it went into limp mode.

If it is the marine power engine, the Johnson PN would be 09-812B and the Sierra PN would be 18-3306.

An impeller is usually $30ish. With labor etc... You are probably looking at $100 or so.

Thanks everyone for the fee back. That sierra number was the same one they thought it was so they will go ahead an order it. They are trying to get it fixed by the weekend for me, so this was a big help.

            Thanks,

            Dan

Good luck. FYI: I just paid $26.99 online a week or two ago, but have seen them for $50 at West Marine. They should be very easy to find.

V-drive impellers are not fun to change, I would expect it could be 1.5 hrs labor.

So do you have Merc or marine power engine? The Merc impeller is very common and easy to find.

Easiest way to change it is to losen the belt, then remove the two bolts that hold the pump on, now you can pull the whole pump out of the boat and this makes the impeller change very fast. I do this annually and it takes about 30-45 minutes.

Also pull the houses on each side of the transmission cooler and see if there is any debris in the screen.

Did you not have any alarms going off? What did the temp gauge read?

Not sure if its marine power or Merc. Its a GM 5.7L 335HP. I hope its marine power as that is the part number that was given to my marina. I didnt catch the temp gauge when it happened. The was warning sound but it didnt go off at first when I lost power...it went off right after then the engine shut off. I think I was somewhere over the 175 mark on the temp gauge but again not sure as I didnt know what was happening at the time.

If it was the impeller, as said before, you really need to get all the little chunks of the old one out of the system.

Lots of impeller failures this year. Much more than usually see.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I just had mine replaced on a 2003 22V. The part was around $30. Total bill was around $200. The impeler is a pain to get too, and they had to take a lot of hoses apart to fine all the old impeller pieces.

                            Good Luck.
