    1999 PRE 2200I

Was looking at this boat and thought it is a good deal.

    http://www.laceymarina.com/pre_owned...R0&veh=2750394

Guy said the interior has discolored some since it sits outside the dealer. Asked about the hours and said it doesn't have an hour meter. Should I be worried about the rub marks on the bottom and the bow?

I would like to know how other people with this boat think about it (or people with experience with this boat) and is there anything I should be on the lookout before. I have some mechanic experience and may bring my dad along (former car mechanic) to look at it as well.

Any info on this boat would be most appreciative and any info you would like to add about the model/company/etc.

    Thanks

    Welcome to the site.

Right off it looks fairly good. The one ding on the side could be repaired fairly easy, at least the fiberglass guy I use.

I can't tell on the mark on the keel. At first I wondered if it was a keel guard but after looking almost looks like it rubs on the trailer when it loads. I would check that out.

What are you looking to do with the boat? I started at about that amount and year for a budget but ended up waiting a little and went newer based on what I was after.

When I was looking direct drives were cheaper and and would see the same ones month after month. It seems that more and more people are looking at v drives.

Looks like it's in pretty good shape (just by looking at the pics)

Price seems pretty good as well. Someone on here that has that boat will be able to tell you if it is supposed to have an hour meter. I would certainly want to know the hours before I bought it.

Looks as though the hour meter is missing from the dash? Not sure if the motor can be scanned to find that info out. Boatwakes will know. Wait for him to reply.

The keel looks as though it regularly was beached. The ding on the chine can be repaired fairly easily. Looks like they hit a rock while beaching it.

Looks like an Aerial tower. Good budget tower.

It has the factory JVC remote in it still. I'm pretty sure it ain't gonna work with that Sony HU.

I don't recall ever seeing red carpet in a Tige before.

        What prop is on it?

I would definetly drive it before making any decision. I would also have it checked by a reputable mechanic.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I own identical boat , great runner. hour meter on mine was placed under dash at your left leg. Would worry not knowing amount of hours. Keel damage means the boat has been constantly beached . would not do that to my boat . have it looked at and test drive absolutley .

My boat is almost the same. Great boat. Not much for surfing. It looks to me as well that it was beached regularly. I would never beach my boat. The price seems good. The red carpet throws me too. Good luck

That boat has been on Boat trader since March. They orginally had it listed for $15 or $16 if I can remember correctly. Far as the HR meter if not under the dash look in the glove box for it. The spot of the fiberglass could have been caused by sticks when loading it against the trailer or a boat lift. Mine had it and brothers has it too in the same spot. Pretty easy fix. The way the tubes for the speedo's are popped up makes me think it was sitting on a lift, my old boat use to do that when it was on the lift. Now beaching it would really bother me as well as it sitting outside without a good cover. The gauge face comming off is very common with those guages. If you can go for a test drive be your best bet. Check make sure taps works along with everything else. Open the motor cover look back at the shaft going through the floor, see if its just a drip or a steady leak. If steady just needs packing replaced which is very easy but give you room to bargan more. Good luck.

I've driven several ski, pontoons, and PWCs before and my parents owned a ski boat that I used to take out almost every weekend when I was younger but this will be my very first boat I will own.

Would use it mostly for skiing at first but want to get into wake boarding as well. Only been wake boarding once and was terrible at it but actually enjoyed it.

The dealer says that I can test drive it first there as they are by the water so I will try to test it thoroughly. I think that most salesmen (at least auto salesmen) hate it when I test drive and look at a vehicle because I spend a lot of time looking and checking the vehicle before we start looking at numbers.

Maybe I'm not seeing it or just don't know about it but why are there no needles on the tach or speedo?
I know what the TAPS is but how do I check functionality?
Also, does this boat have wooden stringers and floors or do I need to be checking for soft spots?
Also should I ask their mechanic about it or maybe try to take it somewhere else to have it checked out?

                Thanks!

If you have the time, get it checked my a mechanic. I would be a little weary of the bottom fiberglass either from regular beaching or something scraping on the trailer. Take a real good look at the bottom and look for bubbles under the gel coat, that is called blistering. It is a chemical reaction under the gelcoat when water mixes with the resin in the fiberglass. It can be expensive to fix, but some people just don't fix it and keep using their boats. Google gel coat blisters and you'll find more than enough info. You'll be able to see if it has blisters or not. In any case, the big scrape down the keel and the small ding in the chine should be good points to use in negotiations to bring the price down a little for you.

The tach is looks foggy which will probably need to be replaced along with the other guages. I think the speedo is the angle of the pic or the needle color has faded out.

There is a switch on the throttle handle for the taps. Press it up and down. Guage should indicate movement. But look at the taps plate itself to ensure its moving up and down when out of the water.

They have wooden stringers so check for soft spots and/or excessive flex when test driving.

Dumb question but why are there two speedos?
Also, the pics make it look like the TAP gauge is broken or uninstalled. What does it look like to you?

The taps guage is missing. Thats interesting. The TAPs system can still function without the guage but you cant tell what position its in. The 3 guages on the left have already been replaced. The JVC remote on the lower right wont work since the radio was changed out.

2 speedo's started a while back in true ski boats. From what I understand idea is one will read the correct speed when you are making turns so the driver can compensate for the speed loss.

Is it a hassle to install a new TAPs guage?

To install the gauge no, to find the guage it could be Ive never had to find one just rewired some relays on 2 models. But you want to make sure the hydraulic pump and rams all work too. Not too hard to replace any of it just starts adding to a lot of $ fast. From what Ive seen sometimes if they dont work its a relay issue more than pump issue. Just something to keep in mind as more barganing room not a show stopper. The fiberglass and interior would be more of a concern for me than the Taps. The boat will function perfectly without the taps working just a nice feature to have working properly especially when it comes to wakeboarding or adding ballast.

Like roger said, the entire taps system is all fairly basic. You definetly want it working. Without it, the boat will porpoise badly at WOT.
