TAPS plate alignment?

This year I'm having to run my TAPS plate at lower numeric settings than last year to get the same wake performance. I'm wondering if the relationship between the plate angle and the sensor has gotten off somehow.

Anyone know how the factory aligns these things? Something like "When the plate is level with the bottom of the hull, the readout should be 4"...? I'd like to confirm things are right.

I have felt the same way about our TAPS system since the plate and actuator were replaced a month or two ago. I've calibrated it several times to no avail. The plate definitely works but I really can't use it much past 2 for surfing or wakeboarding. Also, when just driving the boat past around 30mph, I can't raise it at all or it porpoises. It almost seems like the plate isn't lowering as much as it used to. I'm taking the boat to the dealer tomorrow for the 75hr service and I'll see what they say.

For comparison, when I pick the boat up tomorrow, I'll see what the readout says when the plate is level with the hull and post my findings.

Could your new ram be shorter than the previous?

I have the opposite problem. Effects that I remember taking TAPS of 4-5 now take TAPS 2-3. That implies the plate is lower than last year for a given readout value.

I presume there is a calibration procedure for the TAPS plate. Anyone know what it is?

Hmm. This really has me thinking. I'd love to see what the TAPS plate would do in a lower position. I would think it would help the boat to plane out quicker and give me a better usable range with the plate. I wonder how thick of a spacer they used? I wonder if 1" would be too much? Anyone think it might cause too much pressure on the plate/ram if it were lower?

I'm not sure if the ram is shorter but I'd expect it to be the same.

I took pics at each TAPS position and tried to keep my phone in the same spot for each pic but it was a little difficult since I was by myself and kept having to get up and down.

Right off the bat, it's clear to see that for some reason the jump from 1-2 is huge and 2,3 & 4 are really close together. This would explain why 2 is about the highest usable position for wakeboarding or surfing. Not sure if anything can be done about it though. I calibrate the TAPS on the Tige Touch each time out.

This is the absolute minimum, zero shown on the display plus the button was held there until the plate wasn't moving anymore:



This is TAPS 0, reached by having the indicator at 1 and then backing off just barely until no indicators were shown:

Note that there is a substantial move between 8 and "max". I wonder if my range of motion has shifted relative to the indication. The boat sure drives like it.

I noticed my Taps also has a big jump between 1-2.

Not sure if it's helpful to this thread, but anything lower than taps 4 and I start to hear the resonance from my surf exhaust pipe. 4 thru 9 is fine. 1-3 I start to hear the exhaust and get a rooster tail. 20240526_152009.jpg
