Amp Mounting Location R20 and other ?'s

Is the raised area on the left/port side wall the proper spot to mount amps on a 2011 R20?

I also will need to install a sub and run wires for tower speakers so any tips or advice on that is appreciated. I bought a 10" kicker sub for the driver kick panel it is a free air so I would like to mount it on the wall. I noticed there is the fuse box and another wall behind.

Yep. There's plenty of room there for amps. I mounted my amps to a 3/4" carpeted board that was slightly larger than the factory board and wired them up prior to mounting it to the boat.







I've been planning to build a panel to trim out the amps but I'm pretty positive that I'm replacing the JL amps with the new Wet Sounds Sinister amps when they come out.

That space looks similar to the same space in my RZ2, and I had the amps mounted on the opposite wall. I put lots of stuff in that compartment (including wakeskates and kids wakeboards), and the right side was more out of the way. Plus, the built-in trash can (I don't know if the R20 has that) provides good protection for them as I put stuff in and pull it out.

I'll try to post some pics when I'm back home.

There doesn't seem to be anyplace to mount it on the right side on the R20 and there is no trash can.

As for wiring the amps are they just connected to the deep cycle battery or is there another method/place for hooking them up? I have done car stereos before but never a boat so I want to be sure i do it right and don't mess up anything in case the electrical system is finicky.

To mount on the inside of the walkway wall, you will need to build and secure an amp rack/wall to that spot. Theres a couple ways to do this.

mobile audio on a boat is a different animal then car audio as there is no chassis to ground to on a boat. And grounding to the tower bolts wont work, even though some continue to try

In basic form, yes, the amps and other audio gear need to share the same battery source and in the end, terminate at the battery. The exact scheme will depend on how many amps and the type of switch, if any, is used. There is nowhere in a boat to hook an amp's power cabling to.

The ideal configuration for multiple amps would be a large gauge trunk line from the battery to the amp install are, then split through distrobution blocks to each amp with a smaller gauge. Again, details will very.

I wasn't going to try using the tower as a ground, that is creative though! I assumed a large gauge wire from the deep cycle battery for the power and ground would work and be the way it is handled. However in speaking to someone they said to be very careful because if not wired properly it could cause problems with the ECM. So I wanted to be sure there was no special wiring method other than the ground wire returning all the way to the battery.

I am planning on using 4 gauge to and from the battery to distribution blocks, then 8 gauge from the blocks to the amps. The one amp is a JBL MA6004 (60W RMS x 4 4ohm) and a Rockford Fosgate R500-1D (250W RMS x 1 4ohm)

I do not ground any audio to the helm BUSS. The amps' main ground needs to go battery direct. All low current devices like head-unit, EQ or BT, I prefer to terminate their ground either directly to the amp's power cable terminals or to the amp cables at the distribution block. If its a complex system, I will sometimes come off the distribution block to a small BUSS bar of my one, thats mounted by the amps. This gives me lots of terminals for the head-unit, EQ or other zone control, BT, LEDs, etc.
