The Alpha Z is the only tower with specific surf tow points on both sides of the tower designed to keep riders in the sweet spot.
Anyone use this or just the tow hook/pylon at top?
I used the Wake9 "nubbin" until we went back to using the extended bimini this season. Now towing from underneath just puts too much stress on the bimini. So we pull from the center tower (we do not have a ski mount).

Wow. I had no clue that's what those were for! I've always used the regular tow hook. What sucks is my Ronix surf bungee rope has actually started wearing down the black material on the top of the bimini because it's a bigger and more course rope.
Can you tow from the ski pilon just for getting up? I'd rather not use a rope at all to start. Is it a bad idea to start by just sliding off of the swim platform once the boat is underway?

Those are grab handles. Ragboy came up with the idea to tow from that point with a strap and Tige christened them "surf tow points ... designed to keep riders in the sweet spot". Power of marketing. Good for them
I do not think tow point height aids someone in getting up on a wakesurf board. If I had a ski pylon, I would use it to surf tow (though I am glad I have smooth gel coat in that spot!).
Platform starts are popular. We do not do them on our boat because of increased risk (head --> transom) and the relative fragility of our glass boards. But I have seen riders do platform starts on other boats and it looks cool and effective.

We use the surf nubbin with the extended bimini all the time, and I've never noticed stress on the bimini. Maybe I just haven't been looking for it. I'll look closer next time, but I don't think this has been a problem for us. Could be different rope lengths.
On our R20 we have the Vector tower and pull just outside my speaker mounts with webbing I found lying around and it works well. I am currently wanting the nubbins for 2 reasons.....I trust the rag boy put extensive testing on his product and I would rather help support the sport and wake9 then give my $ to someone I don't know like home depot to make my own..
Wow, that is great. I didn't know you could tow from that point when surfing. I missed the marketing on that one. I will try it next time. To answer OP, I tow from the middle tow point on the tower, but will be towing from this new spot next time out. I can see it helping newbies a bunch to keep them outside of the wake in the beginning.
