Angry Birds

A buddy took me out of Marina Del Rey this past weekend and we had an awesome day, except for a run in with a very ornery pelican. The photos below should tell the story pretty well.

Basically, a very large pelican lands near us and my buddy decides to swim towards it.

Then he apparently breaches the pelican's personal space, and the pelican does not like it.

My buddy begins to swim away from the pelican, but the pelican decides to follow him.

He starts to panic. We are all laughing so hard that all we can do to help is throw a rope for him to pull himself back in. The pelican does not like that.

Sorry this next one is so blurry, but the person taking the picture was laughing so hard they fell over. We start pulling him in on the rope, but the pelican is not finished with him yet.

Finally, the pelican has had enough and we pull a very tired and very relieved guy back onto the boat, while the pelican mocks him.

Once we got the guy back on the boat, he promptly threw up. (no picture attached)

That was by far the highlight of our day, well the highlight of everyone's day except for the guy in the water.

We had a pelican fly in and decide to attack our 8-year old son last year while he was floating in the water with his wakeboard on. Unfortunately, we didn't think to grab a camera to document it: http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...=rabid+pelican

Pelicans are nasty creatures. We had a run-in with a pair of them in Australia a few years ago. Really vile birds. Glad your friend was OK... he was in the pelican's native element so the advantage was with the bird. Good thing he wasn't injured.
