    20V - Surfing - Taps Question

Have a 2008 20V and just started surfing the past couple of days. Curious if anyone could assist with a question. I DO NOT have any ballasts in the boat yet. What would be the best speed and TAPS setting to surf. I realize it probably wont put out a big enough wake to allow me to let go of the rope. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the responses. Take care.

Still probably around 10mph, maybe a little slower. Start Taps all the way up and then adjust down to clean up the wake. Best thing you can do is get all your passengers in the back corner and have the driver make a slight turn.

do you turn towards the surfer or away from them?

Experimentation. It will change every time you are out, depending on weight in the boat, location of the weight, even depth of the water. Get a jumbo surf sac in your 20V, you won't regret it.

Turning towards the surfer will give them a steeper cleaner wake. The wake a way from the surfer will be washed out and crappy.

I am the one surfing so I am not driving but I believe my wife is driving straight. Not turning one direction or the other. Is she supposed to have the boat on a slight turn ? If so which way ? From looking at the wake it looks like the cleanest wake is at about 9 mph and the TAPS set at a 6. Any thoughts ?

With a big enough wake, the driver would want to go straight ahead. But making a turn will add wake size on the inside of the turn and it allows the allows the surfer to move a little slower and still keep up with the boat.
If you don't care about letting go of the rope, don't worry about it. Other options include getting a really big board and a really light surfer

Speed and TAPS setting will change as the weight and placement changes.IMP 9 is as slow as you would want to go. 10 - 10.5 seems about right. I think the 20V will like going straight.

                  Cuba,

I have an 08 20v as well, and the wave behind my boat with 2 1100# sacs (one in each rear locker) is decent for a smaller boat. My port wave is prettier than my starboard side. I ride goofy so I am on the starboard side, and I will play on the port side from time to time.

Speed, weight, and TAPS settings for us:
                  Speed - 10.2 - 10.6
                  Taps - 1 - 3
Weight - Surf side sac full with everyone in the boat on the surf side. Sometimes if we don't have a lot of people on the boat with us I will fill the opposite side sac about 20%-25% to help dig the A$$ end of the boat down.

                  Some pics of my wave:

hyphen79, do those 1100 fit alright in the 20V locker? Any weight up front?

we put 2 450lb sacs in one rear compartment and then 350 pounds right up front. Run the taps around 6-7 with 2 lighter people in boat. We all can ride without a rope and its the same on both sides. Filling the old fuel tank right full helps also.

First year with our 20v and have 750lb in the rear surf side and 250 in the front locker surf side. If I fill the other front locker, I loose some push so I usually dont. Just the wife and I and it's OK.

I put two adults in the corner seat surf side and it's real nice. It's get the rub rail right down there. I have a 400lb sack that I can also throw in the place of the corner seats that help if we don't have the peeps. Taps around 5 or so and speed 11.5-13 mph.

No weight up front. You loose push when you put weight up front. It makes the wave a little longer but that's about it. After spending a week on the lake this past week I was able to keep up with the boat at 12.2 mph with taps between 2 and 3! This was with just my wife and my son in the boat. The wave at this speed was CLEAN and had a nice size pocket to play in.

The 1100# sacs fit just fine. This picture was before I did my automated install.
