I checked with Tige. Their tech manual states…
“While the Tige boat has been around for a number of years the TAPs actuator has an ongoing problem of leaking hydraulic fluid. The Tige recommended repair is to remove the TAP actuator while the boat is in the water. Once the actuator is removed the holes will quickly cause the boat to fill with water and sink. At this point the owner should drop the actuator and swim to shore. The wet frustrated person is now free to buy a Malibu”.

Don't know if this has been posted. Interesting workaround to the Patented Convex-V hull design.

Grubb says that they only had stock weight in the boat.

I think the big advantage to the Surfgate is how it lengthens the pocket. Generally speaking, the industry has lengthened the pocket by building a gigantic wave up front that tapers off as it goes back. This changes the dynamics of the wave. The surfgate wave may not be that big, but it is bigger than some waves when you look 12 feet back. I think this has some serious potential.
Tige has their work cut out for themselves to not lose market share if this performs in real life as it does in the video.
Nobody, in typical fashion, digs up a 2 year old post to try and get some people's panties in a bunch. Nothing like stirring up some crap to see if it stinks. Thanks for contributing.Last edited by talltigeguy; 07-18-2012, 06:46 PM.Be excellent to one another.

This changes the dynamics of the wave. The wave may not be that big, but it is bigger than some many waves when you look 12 feet back. I think this has some serious potential.

I found it interesting how brand loyalty tends to give us prejudgments. Objectivity gets tossed out the door and the only boat worthy of praise ia the brand we own. Malibu is NOT a rinky dink operation and the video does not do justice. For the average Joe, Malibu's Surfgate is the perfect fix to a new perspective buyer. Surfgate HAS merit. With good marketing, it will be a success. Not everyone needs a pro wake. The poster may have been a little harsh and obtuse, but reading how fellow Tige owners judge Malibu's Wakegate on this forum, nothing Malibu does it right. It goes both ways. So Tall and MikeD can put their perfectly pressed panties back in the drawer, sit down and ask yourself if your truly being objective. In my opinion, your being a brown noser about the subject matter. This is a big success for Malibu and you don't like it. Plain and simple. As for the TAPS problem....it was the block relay, which of course Dom had in stock and assisted my trouble shooting....and who just so happens to be the best Tige dealer in the country. But @#!*% , I couldn't get otta there without buying a View4RTC mirror by Protomet. Good God that mirror is beautiful!! Wait, did Malibu have an influence in the design? If they did, surely it has to be junk.
