Saw this video from the WW Surfgate thread, I can't wait to see if Duffmahoney or Nickypoo are going to add vertical trim plates to their boats. Looks like you don't need hydro either, but it would be nice to just use hydro and pop out the tabs.

I really can't believe that someone is out-diy-ing Duffy Mahoney on this one.
I've been told virtually every Wake Setter coming off the the line is Surf Gate equipped. Here's a video of the first one I've seen behind a VLX. I'm sure will be many more copies, but the only real deal is from Malibu.

To me, this is the most impressive surf gate vid I have seen. Regular owners having fun on a good looking wave.
And I will gladly overlook my normal knee jerk reaction to riders not wearing PFDs due to 1:10 in that video

I'm still not sold on the whole thing. But I have been brain storming on how to install it. The swim platform brackets could be in the way.
Good to hear you have been thinking it through. I think we need to give it more experience to see if it is worth it. I see right now that this greatly lenghtens the pocket, but I am not sure how it works for giant sized overballasted boats.
Maybe just me but the wake looked different from the guy to the girl. Like it was smaller. So does the surf gate allow you to size the wake?
Malibu is now offering plug'n play to add more rear ballast, so it could have been weighted different. Also the power wedge can be run at different positions, which can effect wake size.
A couple friends of mine work at the local Malibu shop here in MN. I stopped in to grab a new pair of Ronix Frank bindings today and asked about the surfgate wave. Everyone there had ridden behind their first one, and all agreed it was just insane. Weight the back of the boat evenly, and switch side to side with no effort. They said the wave was SUPER long and incredibly clean. These are friends, so they give me their true opinion which is not always in favor of Malibu boats.
I wonder what will happen when the back end of the boat is over weighted or not evenly and the water wants to rush over the top of the gate once extended...?
