Texas Trailer Registration

Well Ive decided I need to finally register my trailer, yes after owning it for three years, Anyway, the original Bill of Sale doesn't have the trailer listed on it, and it also didn't come with plates.

So, what am i going up against? is this going to be a pain in the arse or should i just rob a plate off a car hauler jk

Go to your county assessor and see what they will require. What is making you finally do it? Do you have to register it?

I just decided it would prolly be a good idea just in case i got pulled over and there isnt a tag on the trailer and get a ticket for it

Go to the county courthouse and they will give you all the forms you need to get it registered. Usually really helpful with directions. Plates are about 55 per year.

Without the bill of sale it maybe more difficult but should be possible. You may have to register it as a home built unless you can track down the owner and get one. I may not be remembering all of the details correctly and it probably does change by county. I am in Momtgomery County. If your county is like mine, no need to go in to see what your options are just call the county tax accessors office and they should tell you. If the home built route is how you need to go you probably have to take the trailer for an inspection. On my previous boat trailer I had a bill of sale but the previous owner had never registered it so it created some headaches and I thought I may have to go the home built route but I managed to get it registered but don't remember the details.
