    Wetsounds Issues

    Hey everyone,

This summer we have been having problems with the bolts shearing off holding the quick release/swivel mounts for 2 sets of REV 8's. Has anyone else had this issue?

We got a very early edition of the swivel/quick release mounts and they are perfectly flat where the Alpha Z tower has a curve where the speakers mount, this leaves some wiggle room and the stress of the heavy speakers was too much causing the bolts to shear... Has Wetsounds updated the mount to address this issue?

Not sure how I am going to get the sheared bolts out of the tower either...

    Any suggestions would be great.

    Thanks,

    Conor

    conor,

have you spoken to my office and talked with Gyver in tech support yet?

what bolts did you use for the base plate to the tower? As the factory has a different thread type that what comes with the speakers. Also, the majority of the towers all use the fixed speakers with the tige adapters which are made to follow the concave.

When using the swivel bases. I suggest putting a piece of hard rubber cut to the size of the base plate so there is a solid mount with no wiggle. I think that is the issue here. Also, a number 8 rated bolt could be used in this location.

Feel free to shoot me an email and i can try to get you some links to the rubber and bolts.

I have a different issue with my Pro485s, the threads are getting stripped out. Nice idea on the rubber mounting plate.

I had this happen too. I was able to get the bolt out with a good screw extractor set. For the new bolts I purchased a conical head bolt that fits recessed into the hole onto the mounting bracket. The ones that were used we're a flat head and did not give a very finished look. I called tige parts dept to get the screw thread pitch, I do not remember what that was sorry. I then went to a specialty hardware store and bought the new bolts from them. I also purchased a sheet of craft foam at a hobby store to take up the gap created by the curve in the tower. I am not sure of the exact name but it is fairly dense foam that's about 1/8 inch thick and looks like the foam used as a weather strip in outdoor electrical boxes. The sell them in a paper sized sheet and some have a peel and stick that work awesome to keep it attached to the bracket until you have the bolts tightened down. I have not had a problem since. The speakers hold very tight to the tower now. Hope this helps! Good luck with the bolt removal.
