To clarify, the standard taps plate on the R20 is a fixed plate adjustable by hand when stopped or out of the water. The hydraulic adjustable taps plate with the switch on the throttle is the option on the r20, standard on all the other boats.2009 RZ2, PCM 343, MLA Surf Ballast, Premium Sound.

Thank for all the info. That surf wave looks money. one of the things I liked as mentioned was te fact the drivers console is moved up and you gain more cockpit space but lose bow space. No adults ever really sit up there while under way and my kids all sit in the cockpit. So really my bow is empty 90% of the time and I much rather have the extra cockpit space. This is same thing MC did on the X 15 vs the older 1st generation Pickle Fork X Star.
When I drove an RZR it seemed to really want to porpoise at speeds and we def needed to use the taps. The bow rode high at wakeboard speeds but I was actually kind of shocked at how low it was when it was weighted up. The R20/RZR isn't out of the equation just yet but I feel you get way more space in the models in the cockpit area that we have chosen and the boats track just a bit better driving. I have yet to drive a new one besides the RZR so maybe this is a trade off with the newer convex v hulls. On a side note I don't see why any dealer or customer for that matter would not order any boat in the line without a hydraulic taps plate

You really need to use the hydraulic taps plate to drive the boat. Here is the secret, it's just a trim tab, but the hull has rocker to it, so you need to use the taps system to keep the bow down and keep it from porpoising. For cruising to your riding spot, set the taps at 1. When you get up on plane, slowly raise your bow by hitting the top of the taps switch with short little clicks. Keep raising the bow with the taps until the bow starts to porpoise, then lower the bow a little to stop the porpoise. There is no perfect taps setting for cruise, each time will be slightly different based on changes to your boats weight, your speed, and wind conditions or chop on the water.
When your dialing in your wake for wakeboarding or surfing I would use a similar approach, except when you get the wake dialed, don't change the taps setting when your rider falls, just keep it until the set is over.2009 RZ2, PCM 343, MLA Surf Ballast, Premium Sound.

Sounds like he wants to try the Z1 because the cockpit area is larger, The Zee will porpoise also above 35mph with no bow weight, I fill the bow sac right after launch and empty it right before I load, and I keep Taps at 1 while cruising anywhere at speed, In any medium chop I will set TAPs at 2-3 and slow down."Failing to prepare is preparing to fail" John Wooden- Rest in Peace
