Wet Sand, compound, polish back transom

My transom faces west in my drive way and tends to get a lot of oxidation.


I stripped off all the decals, hardware, and wet sanded it with 600, 1200, 1500 and 2000. Then buffed it out with MacGuire's compound and polishing cream.


Finished it off with 3M Finesse it and wrapped the lower section with Aeroguard Clear Bra.

When you say 'wet sand' do you hand sand, use a power sander ? And just get it wet or wet the sandpaper?

Thanks guys, Murphini, You can buy wet sand paper at an auto paint store. I just used a bucket with a little ammonia. (I read it helps with lubrication). Just dip it in sand, dip, sand, dip, you get the picture. I basically followed what KKO did and Team Allen posted several years ago on this site. If you just have oxidation, you can probably skip the sanding part. I had a lot of scratches from people kicking the back with the wakeboards.

Looks great. Instead of putting ammonia in the sand paper bucket you can put a couple of drops of dish soap. Doesn't smell and offers a bit more lubrication for the paper. Plus dish soap is formulated to break strip wax.

I usually like to let the sand paper sit in the water for 15-20 mins or so. Till it becomes soft. Also you may want to knock it against another piece of sand paper the same grit to knock the sharp edges off.
