Bent prop. What are the odds something else is damaged?

Was just out on the lake in 20' of water and somehow hit an unseen rock, which did considerable damage to 3 out of 4 of my prop blades. I can't see any other damage, but am wondering if I should have someone look at it, or just switch out the prop myself and see what happens. I'm kinda under the gun since I have a group of people coming out next weekend and will be on the boat for 3 days.

Any thoughts?

Change it yourself and hit the water asap if there is any vibration then take it to a dealer.

Looks like my rudder is bent slightly to the right, and it took a gash out of my gelcoat over the prop, which is weird since it's about 3" from the prop. I must've hit it pretty good. Damn.

Is it worse than this? This incident bent the strut, shaft, took a nick out of the rudder and a small ding in the FAE.

make sure you check your shaft seal and rudder seal as well, thats a pretty big hit !

Uh, yeah, it's worse than that, from what I can tell. My prop is pretty bad, there's a nice ding on the lower front of the rudder, and the rudder is bent to the right a bit. I have a feeling this is gonna be an expensive one.

Tell your friends to make alternative plans. I would not drive it until you know it is all fixed. Bending the strut and rudder is always a bad sign.

Just got off the phone with the insurance company, and headed to Absolute Speed and Marine in Havasu. Hopefully they can fix it before Friday, we'll see.

Well, looks like I need a new prop, prop shaft, and rudder. Guessing we'll find some other goodies that need replacing when it's all taken apart. Not good.

If insurance is taking care of it, Have them change the steering cable while they are in there. It probably is time to change it out anyway and it could have stretched it also.

The rudder will be off center by design - not bent, but off-center. This allows for the removal of the prop. To ding the gelcoat though sounds like a pretty good knock.

i feel your pain guys. i hit a rock good but what hurts even more is that i am getting bent over by the shop
