Big uptick in cruise control problems...

New this year, I'm seeing much more frequent cruise control problems. This is after reflashing the Medallion controller's firmware last season. We put ~6 hours on the engine yesterday, all wakesurfing, and I'd estimate the cruise dropped out over a dozen times.

    There are three conditions:

    1) The most common one is the screen switches to the "MAIN" display, where you select from one of the various main display options. To correct this, we switch off the cruise control rocker switch, switch it back on, and reselect the desired speed.

    2) Less commonly, the cruise display stays up but it keeps saying "MORE THROTTLE" even though the throttle arm is maxed. The engine RPM's hunt a bit so speed is erratic, though it's generally in the correct range. To fix this one, we "change" the set speed up or down one increment and then put it right back to the original value.

    3) Finally, sometimes everything "looks" right but cruise control never asserts authority over the engine. As you ramp up the throttle, the speed just goes right past the set value and keeps climbing. It's a real experience wakesurfing at 15-20 MPH! Like #1, we switch off the cruise control rocker switch, switch it back on, and reselect the desired speed.

Last year our cruise control was working quite well, exhibiting problems perhaps once or twice in the entire season after the reflash. Not sure what would have caused this change in behavior.

Anyone else having cruise control issues? Seen these before? How did you correct it?

I have had all those problems with mine, but they seem to occur randomly. Sometimes you'll see the entire screen lock up and you won't be able to change the cruise setting, turning it off and on with the rocker switch does nothing and I have to turn the engine off and on to get it to reset.

All of this sounds like Tige's version of the Ford MyTouch system that has created so much frustration with Ford owners.

Computers, got to love em. They really do have a mind of their own.
I don't want to go to work, take me wake surfing instead!

Ah yes, the 09 Speed Set issues, discussed for 7 pages on this thread and other places since.

Short answer is, the problem has never been fixed. After the latest flash, I rarely drop out to the main screen and it has been awhile since it locked up.

But overshooting the set point occurs very frequently. If you hammer down, it will most always catch. But if you feather pull up the rider then roll up the throttle (or even feather then hammer), it will often miss.

yeah, we had the latest flash done last year and it made it better but still not 100% right. like said above, when we hammer down it seems to work fine. we still get the main screen locked up and do the cycle on the toggle switch to correct it. occasionally it will completely lock up and need to restart engine.....long story short is that it has not happened "as much" but still randomly happens.
Maybe Tige can get us another update, but my guess is medallion has moved resources away from this software and onto other software issues by now, chances we see a fix are slim to none. If we have enough of us though experiencing this problem maybe they will work with us???

I keep dreaming of them releasing the source code so those of us with the capability can start self-supporting.

Another thought: I wonder if when the cruise control drops out, it's some sort of failsafe. Perhaps the system has detected some condition it believes to be a problem and drops out intentionally. If so, it would be nice if it notified the operator of what that condition was.

I have an 09' and am still havig problems. The module was replaced (i think at end of first season), which helped for a while but problems are back. Sometimes when pulling a rider the speed just steadily goes slower and slower till the boat stops. Sometimes (surfing Saturday) the speed never catches and goes right past set speed. I hit "speed set" then arrow down to desired speed and it never corrects. usually, when this happens, I stop, shut off engine, wait a minute restart and we are good to go. I just deal with it though.

Whenever our Speed Set overshoots, I flip the dash switch off, manually throttle to desired RPM/speed, flip dash switch back on, depress middle Speed Set button and adjust up/down buttons. Yes a pain in the tail (especially when shouting these instructions into the boat from 70' behind it while going too fast )

I too have found a similar solution when the display appears normal but the speed just keeps climbing: Press the center button (which allows tuning of the current speed and makes the set value turn red), arrow down or up one increment and then back to the original value, and then press the center button again. I expected the firmware to then believe a change had been set which would force it to "pay attention". That's exactly what happens, and it allows the session to continue.

It's just a shame that we have to do this at all.

Has anyone upgrades to the new 3rd party GPS plug in for our speedset? Saw a thread on WW for another boat and wondered if this would help us... maybe its a paddle wheel issue... and not software.... i'm only talking about the dangerous run away issue..
