We also ride the San Bernard river - it is near the gulf, so the water has some salt, will eat your trailer. Some guys on here go to the Ttrinity River north of Houston - up near Lake Livingston - been known to spot gators up there, but the river is deeper and wider than the San Bernard. Both are about 1-1.5 hrs from Houston, depending on where you settle - in case you don't know, Houston is huge. I live on the west side, Katy, and there is the Colorado River about 2 hrs west on IH-10, two small lakes have been made on this river - Lake McQueeney and Lake Placid. Lake Sommerville is about 1.5 hrs, good for tubing, tough to find glass. Lake Conroe is just north of town, big lake, have to known what areas to go to to find glass.
