So I got this new boat and thought well with this monster surfing should be easy.....nope wrong! I tried with no ballast and if I let go of the rope I just fall back quick, I filled a 500 lbs fat sac and the rope would go slack but I still need to give it a light tug to stay going and I have to be about 2-3 feet from the swim platform I have another 500 lbs fat sac but I am nervous off 1000 lbs all on one side of the boat. Is more ballast going to help? I also weigh in at an hefty 240lbs am I to big for surfing? I said big not fat LOL

Yes, more ballast helps when you are learning. Dont sweat running a thousand pound of ballast back there. We routinely run run 1200+ on those 22ft Tige boats. You just need to pay close attention to your driving and not turn right back into your own wake to pick up a down rider. Let the boat come to a stop, let the wave pass, then turn around.
The board your ride will also have a huge effect on slack-roping, as well as your stance on the board. Post a pick of you surfing, this makes adding pointers easy. Also, whats you boat speed and TAPS setting.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

Once you get your wave the way you want it....
First thing I tell new people we take out, Don't be so quick to drop the rope!
After you are up, pull yourself into the wave with the rope. Take the slack rope and put it in your back hand, and use your front hand to hold on to the rope. This works best with a knotted rope, as the knots will help you hold on. As you get slack just loosen your grip on your front hand and try to keep slack in the rope as the wave pushes you. As you fall back tighten your grip, front hand, and let the rope pull you back into the wave. This way you don't fall and have to continue coming back to pick you up. Once you get to a point where you can keep slack in the rope and not use the rope to stay in the sweet spot of the wave, then its time to let go and go wireless!
Post some videos! I posted vids and the guys on here help me get wireless real quick with foot placement, weight distribution, etc...
Good Luck and have fun!

More ballast is needed for sure. And yes the 240# makes it tuffer..Us "big" guys are better for making a wave than surfing them..The wake always looks twice as big when I am in the boat compared to when I get out there on it!! Nothing worse than seeing a monster surfwave shrink when you get your turn to surf! Its going to take some time and tinkering to get your wave dialed in. You are also have to get a board that is built for your size and skill level and upgrade you board as you get the hang of it. Others can offer better advice on boards as I really dont do a lot of surfing so I really have not tried to many.Last edited by kko; 06-22-2012, 11:08 PM.

To get started and get going wireless for your size I would look on eBay or CL for a used inland surfer blue lake or red woody. Then you need to think about foot placement and weight distribution on the board. It's amazing to see how moving your back foot toward the front of the board an inch or two makes a huge difference. It's going to take some time on the water to find that happy balance spot to get your feet far enough forward to keep up with the boat but not too far forward where you pearl, or sink the front of the board. When you get better with foot placement and weight distribution, then you can start working on pumping the board to develop your own drive to stay with the boat or recover from getting back too far on the wave. And more ballast never hurt anything either. Good luck and have fun.2009 RZ2, PCM 343, MLA Surf Ballast, Premium Sound.

so the weather finally cooperated so I was able to get out the other day I put both 540 sacs in the same locker and I was able to set the rope on my leg and just leave it there but I was about 2-3 feet from the boat. I messed around with foot placement as you guys said. The feet and the extra wieght helped with both those sacs full I thought it would be lower in the water so now I think Ill get another 2 540s and put one on the seat and the other in the front. Thoughts? Also before I buy them they are the straightline round ones if I was going to install my own ballast system can I use these or should I get something different?

An enzo bag, Inland Surfer Blue Lake surfboard and lower body position will do the trick.
Your post sounds like what I wrote 2 years ago. I was 210ish & couldn't surf on my first board-a CWB RAZR. So frustrated. Got the Enzo sacs from Chpthril & a blue lake surf board & went ropeless for the first time. It's there for you, just need to do a few more tweaks.
Also you need to get low on board/shoulders weight over knees like a shortstop fielding a grounder , also helps to put your arms out/ palms down to find the sweet spot.....like ocean surfers do. Once you find the spot on the wake you'll know. The wake doesn't have to be tall- I go 10.4ish Taps 3.
Now I can ride w/less ballast & lost 20lbs over winter & can ride a smaller Inland Surfer Squirt that i couldn't ride @210# If my pal sends me the video he took o me surfing this weekend I'll post it here. You are closer than you think.

Hey everyone,
I just purchased a 2007 24Ve that has two 400 lb sac's in the rear lockers and two 200 lb sacs in the forward storage areas. The previous owner who was much smaller than I surfed a very small skim board and had no issues. I have nearly mastered getting up and I have been trying relentlessly to throw the rope and can not do it. I have a 5'6" Fish and a older Liquid Force 5'4" Inland Surfer. I am 6'6" and 285 lbs. At this point I think it is the board since I have tried every wake position and many board positions. What are everyone's thoughts? I am considering the Hyperlite 5'11" Landlock Board......

That's some decent ballast but gonna do better with better board. 24e takes alot more ballast per reports here. Which Inland Surfer bd? Where r u? perhaps near somebody that can help out. I go 250+ w 22Ve & 1350+ ballast and go nicely on Walker Project Bazooka 5.1. We have the Hyperlite 5"11 Landlock and its very basic starter board that will likely get u up easier bit not do much after. I can barely go ropeless but its kinda lousy bd even though my wife (much lighter) likes cuz its stable. Lakewakes makes Big Boy bd thats real strong and good success. Others will chime in too.

Hopefully this video posts....
Here is an example of how i get shoulders down & weight over knees. I slow down when upright. Have to lean forward to recatch the wave.

Ive been using the broadcast board for peed I found the wake looks best at 9.5 it splashes over if I go faster and I havent screwed with the taps setting yet. Im going to get the 900lbs sumo sac and plumb it in the enzo sac is just too pricey the 900 with the 2 540s should be enough I hope. Has anyone delt with this wakemakers.com??
