    14" homeade box anchor

Today I started my box anchor. I made it out of 3"x 1/4" flat strap. It's got 4 1/2 inch hooks hanging off that I point a point on. It weighs probably 35 lbs. I have a couple questions.

    1. Do I need to grind the hooks down were they are sharp or will they dig in as they are?

    2. Would a chain lead b beneficial? If so how long of lead should I make it? I'll post more pics whrn its completely done!

If you don't let go, it will hold you down too!

No need for a chain, get a winch.

The original Box Anchor has a 8" long 3/8" diameter steel lead that you tie your rope to. It also has hingers on all 4 corners so it will fold flat for storage.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

Thanks, ill finish it up tomorrow like the original. I didn't want to mess with hinges cuz I've looked like a jack@$$ for the last time 2 weekends ago trying to anchor out in some wind. I'm hoping this thing will so the trick!!

          2 anchors.... problem solved.

The only potential problem I see is getting it to release. The box anchor has a way to break it down and break it's hold when anchored.... gonna be tough until your past it and pulling back with that one.

I would grind that bitch down for sure. It's not going to hurt performance. It might even help. I bet a bedliner shop would shoot it for $20 on the side. Looks cool. I might have to build one myself.

Took me 45 minutes at work today, ran out of time so I'll sharpen it up and hope to hell it works. How do u guys anchor your transom? Ski rope to a pole on shore or what? And for getting it unanchored I was hoping to push out backwards and away from it than reverse til it pops free. I guess well c this weekend!

                Use their slide anchor.

I've seen and used a screw in the ground dog anchor.

finally tried the new anchor out last week and weekend and it worked great! It fit in my storage locker in my direct drive 21i pretty good. I made a 8" chain lead and welded every link togeather. It held the boat perfect. I forgot to put the anchor in Friday night and it busted the rope so my awesome anchor is in the lake. I guess Ill b making a new one this week

That's the beauty of doing it yourself. You lost your anchor and it's no big deal, you'll just make another one. I lost my box last year and I was pissed. No way for me to make one at work unless . . . this computer monitor with a couple of staplers taped to it just might work!
