    21v Gauges Running Up?

So I have one final issue with my new (to me) 21v. Every once in a while my RPM guage will start twitching quite a bit and running up higher than the actual engine RPM. The oil pressure and temp gauges typicall seem to flicker around and race up a bit as well. If I just push one of the TAPS buttons either up or down it will usually go back to normal. It seems to happen at random times and I haven't been able to see any sort of pattern.

The only reason I want to fix this is because when surfing, we usually go by RPMs for speed. When the gauge is all over the place this makes it hard for my friends driving as they have no clue what to do.

    Any ideas?

Bad ground to the gauge panel sounds like a possibility but if it was just the tach, it means the coil is going to take a dump on you soon. Keep a spare on the boat for when it happens.
Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...

I've had this happen on previous boats with Faria gauges. It's an internal gauge issue. You will have to send it back to Faria and have it fixed, (assuming it is a Faria gauge). In my case, they just sent me a new one.

How do you typically replace the grounds to something like this? Would you just simply run a seperate18gauge wire to under the dash straight from the battery?

Do you think that they would do that for me seeing as the gauges are likely as old as the boat? I may have to give their tech support a call.

My tach has done that on occasion for several years. I just tap it and it goes back to normal.
