Anyone know what could be happening here???

I was out in my 22V last night, it was my turn to wakeboard and the driver started to pull me out of the water my boat died. No sputtering, just straight killed it, motor shut off and alarm sounded. The boat started back up with no problem. The same thing happened again when the driver was turning me around for a double up, which occurred about 5-10 minutes later. Not long after that we called it quits for the night and headed in.

My 22v has the 5.7 340 gm vortec.

Anyone out there with previous experience with this happening or an idea of what it might be? Motor runs fine other wise, but I don't want to push it in case it is something serious.

had a similar problem a while ago but it cut off and wouldnt start with my RZ4, turned out to be the power supply to the ECM/ECU

What year is it? A friend of mine (who's also on this site) had a similar issue with his 2006 24V with the 5.7 engine. I seem to remember a thread or two on it a while back.

          Here you go:

But, I just noticed that his went to idle (as opposed to shutting down completely). Not sure if it's related, but it is the same boat, so maybe it'll give you some ideas.

          Good luck.

I am having a similar problem with a 2006 20i. It started 2 weeks ago, running boat for long run. At speed (approximatley 3000 rpm) alarm sounds, and boat cuts back to idle speed/rpm. but in my situation boat remained running at idle speed. All guages showed normal when happened because I had just been looking down when happened. Thought I had done something, i.e. hit throttle with elbow etc. Turned boat off and restarted and ran fine with no problems for rest of day.

Next weekend started happening with more frequency. All same symptoms and circumstances. This weekend, happened every five minutes. Alarm sounds, engine reduces to idle rpm, but keeps running. Went over all mechanical things with pretty knowlegble motor guy. Water pump working fine, oil fine, volt meter shows ok. Boat even did it while sitting still in dock slip at idle speed without transmission engaged. This leads us to believe it is an electical issue.

I called owner of Specialized Marine in Osage Beach, MO, closest dealer to my location. He was very helpful for what I could tell him over phone. He said the boat was going into "automatic reduction mode". It can be for several reasons, including things we seem to have eleminated above. He said he had the same thing happen to a 2006 24v several years ago. It turned out to be loose ground and connection wires in the ignition/key assembly. He suggested I check and tighten all connections, including battery connections to make sure getting steady voltage from battery, before pay for diagnostics from mechanic.

I hope to get down in next several days and check all connections and hope this solves problem. If have any success I will post. Good Luck!

Gents--I had what sounded like the first problem: Died dead in water back in 2008--the ground wire had become disconnected. I couldn't restart. Your ground may be loose which could explain the instant dead, then the restart.

Last year I had a similar issue where I would be at speed and the alarm would go off, I would put to neutral, the alarm would stop, then when I'd put back in gear all was well.

That problem went away after hooking it up to the computer at MAU Marine which I think cleared/reset whatever glitch was in the system that caused it to go to limp mode--which going to neutral would fix. They guy found no error codes, but it was something definately electric. No problems since.... It may also have been caused by my dual batteries--my house battery is dead now so maybe without the fluctuation it doesn't go into limp. (Getting new house battery today)

See you out on the lake next week-we arrive Saturday the 23rd.

To update anyone with a similar problem, I tested both of my batteries today, one tested bad and I replaced it. Will see if this solves my problem. Put almost 2.5 hours on the boat today (with new battery installed) and the problem did not happen again.
