    Engine Losing Power After Idling

So we had the boat out this weekend in Havasu and the temperature was over 110. While pulling people we kept having issues with the engine cutting out a bit after idling for a while. The throttle would be most of the way down and it would accelerate but then just lose power for a few seconds. It always came back but curious as to what could be causing this.

Has anyone had any experience with this before? Could it be caused by it being so hot out? It never happened when we were in cooler weather.

oxygenated fuel? Vapor lock is a possibility.

The MP engine, has two fuel pumps.
I had this issue when my first pump (low presure) was not working.
          It was a bad wire.

Fuel Filter! The little guy on top is easy, but the big guy down under is hell.

I figured it was something in the fuel line somewhere and not the computer. But, would vapor lock be more likely since the issue only happens when we are in high heat areas? If the fuel pump was bad wouldn't it do the same thing in cold and hot weather?

I don't know how it all works so just want to make sure I am looking at the right place before replacing lots of parts

I had the dying at idle problem and fixed by replacing the idle air control or IAC, it is a very easy part to swap out yourself. Try the fuel filter first. You can try cleaning the iac, this worked temporarily for me but kept coming back so I put a new one on and have not had a problem since.

Do you have a carburetor or multiport fuel injection?
Can a MPI have a vapor lock issue?

Its fuel injected. Not sure about vapor lock with mpi but I am leaning towards that since it only happens in high temp.

I started using Marine Stabil to help with the increased ethanol. You could also try running your engine blower all the time instead of just at engine startup. That helps keep the engine compartment cooler.
