Why do I keep wearing gasoline?

Filled the RZ 2 twice now...both times I got the pleasure of gasoline cologne. The last boat never really splashed me like this...why wouldn't the automatic shutoff come into play on this? I can't figure out how to stop it because it goes and then the pump shuts off, but like a half second later the fuel comes flying out of the boat at me and all over the sides of the gelcoat!

Open both gas filler caps and it will be much easier to fill and help keep the splash from being your cologne.

What he said. Also if there is a dealer close by have them check the vent line. Sometimes they come routed incorrectly. But ultimately all you need to do is open the other fill so it vents way better.

All boats do it its kind of the nature of it. Pumping a bit slower seems to help also.

I haven't seen a boat that doesn't overflow... Tige or not.

My first boat (Rinker) did it as does my RZ2. What I do know is fill most of the way on the last click of the handle with the other fuel door on but unscrewed 99% of the way and then when I know I am getting close, I set the handle to the first click and let it flow in slowly. Haven't had gas shoot out of there for 4 years now.

A couple of weeks ago when I filled up I had it set to slow and the other side opened. I had my son watching it and it still came at. May have been him. I was filling the truck at the same time since we were in a hurry.

I did notice on my buddies '06 SANTE that the gas filler hole is similiar to a car, it is big but a inch or so down in it comes to a small hole not much bigger than that of the nozzle. I don't know if that helps or not but wondered if it did how hard it would be to get a filler hole like that. I will see if I can get some pics.

I will always hold the filler hose upside down and open the other side....seem to work pretty well.

What do you mean the other pump shuts off? Are you filling the tank with two pumps at the same time on each side of the boat?

I used to open the other fill port thinking it helped give an extra vent but I don't think it helps, I had gas shoot out the other side once, glad nobody was walking bye. The fill hoses from each side meet at a "Y" before entering the tank so the other side does not allow extra venting from the tank.

I fill on the slowest setting until I put 1/2 the amount I think it's going to take, then I hold the fill lever for the rest of the fill up at almost a trickle and listen to the fill line for the gurgle, then I stop and it usually doesn't splash when I do it that way. I also keep a rag with me, wrapped loosely around the filler nozel to catch the spill if it happens.

All boats will splash fuel if you just stick the filler hose into the boat and wait for the automatic shutoff like a car. Someone on here recommended to turn the filler nozel upside down to avoid the splash but I haven't tried it since I read it. I

I think Skippa is on to something with the narrower fuel neck. It would make sense that with the narrower neck, more pressure would build up against the pump and that's how it "senses" to shut off.

I wrap several of the gas station paper towels around the base of the gas nozzle. It allows for a tight seal and forces more air through the vent line. When the gas spits out of the fill the paper towels prevent it from coming out.

I have often thought about opening the other fill, will have to try that as well.

I do that with the paper towels also and dont even go to the first click on the nozzle handle, It takes longer and I have to hold the handle the whole time while I manual fill but I do not get drenched anymore.The Z1 only has one gas fill.
