    Reality check on gasoline prices...

As an Engineer, I get a lot of magazines every week/month that discuss energy and related topics. I thought this little excerpt from Energy Efficiency and Technology Magazine was particularly appropriate for our sport.

According to the site Inflationdata.com, the average inflation-adjusted gasoline prices for the following peak years are as follows: 1918 gas, $3.75/gal; 1938, $3.22/gal; 2008, $3.39/gal; 2011, $3.48/gal.
Burning fuel in an inboard is still one of the best values for the dollar IMHO!

Especially in a fuel sipping PCM/Tige inboard I still marvel at how little fuel we burn compared to friend's boats.

The governments method to calculate inflation is BS, the real inflation rate has been around 12% per year for the past 4 years.

True that. Our Tige weighs at least 50% more than our last boat, AND with the ultra-ballast system we have vastly more drag in the water, and yet we're still using far less fuel on a per-hour basis. Remarkable achievement, Tige and PCM!!!
