I feel you on the crane thing. Our brand new boat had to be lifted off the truck and put on the trailer. Thank god I only had to see pictures.

wow, the pics of the old trailer make me want to drive straight to my storage unit and check on my trailer! I have a Dorsey(who no longer makes trailers) and pray that it lasts for a long time! I'd rather be buying a new Tower than a new Trailer...

I am in construction and the lifting straps are a far safer way, you have to get the location right, and check the straps, these ones were rated at 8 metric tonnes so plenty of capacity, also no wind and a straight lift and then fingers crossed that the crane driver knows what hes doing !!

I agree on the I beam style of construction, much better way of building them, but more expensive I am told, what sort of price are trailers like boatmate etc? I have no idea, this one, which is very basic was just over $2000, have no idea how that compares

He looked at the old trailer and his comment was 'it is very beautiful but the metal gauage is too thin for this country' they tend to go for heavier gauge even when galv finished.

Someone told me last week that the expected lifesapn of a galvanised trailer here is about 7 years !!

I agree that straps are the way to go. Straps on spreaders with shackles on the lifting rings, all from a hoist. I'm much more comfortable with having equal length, though bolted connections as opposed to having a cradle. Hell of a lot easier too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked you got it done all safe & sound. I would been straight freaking out. Glad to see you get it off the old trailer. It's so knargly. Well done.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

That rust damage to your old trailer is incredible. I am amazed to see it collapsed. I also have a Dorsey that is headed south.

Damn, I have an extreme trailer, steel. and I've used it in salt for years and it is still structurally sound. The powder coat is flexing up from corrosion underneath but it is still perfect.

Is it wrong to laugh at other people's misfortune? The videos where classic!

Gwyn - a friend/colleague of mine works and lives in Dubai for our company. If I ever get there to visit him I will send you a PM. I would love to say that I went wake boarding or wake surfing in Dudai!

The new trailer looks great. It is amazing how fast the trailer rusted out. I wonder if a zinc primed Hi-pro polyester paint would help protect the galvanized metal? I know that some samples have lasted over 5000 hours of a salt spray test without corrosion.
