We had someone do this last season - when my then-9YO son was surfing behind the boat. They were within 50 feet of our stern and keeping up with our ~10 MPH speed. If my son had dropped off the wave I don't know that they could have turned in time, if they even saw him at all. Wide open water, lake not crowded, lots of other paths they could have taken, etc. We waved and screamed at them to no avail. We tried gently turning left and right, so they could keep going straight, and they tracked our path!

I wasn't sure what to do. If we slowed, the wave would fall and my son would be in the water. If we turned too sharply, he might not hold the wave. I thought about throwing him the rope and pulling him in, but wasn't sure I wanted to break his concentration trying to catch the rope.

Finally, the other boat seemed to get the message and they passed us. I didn't make eye contact, I was so p!$$ed off I wasn't sure I could remain a gentleman.

As to your towing adventure: That's some real cheek, yelling at the guy who is offering to help you. Particularly given his earlier behavior when his engine was still running! I'd have left him there too - after making sure he understood WHY I was leaving him there, in the hopes that he would learn something (or his passengers would remind him the next time).

    People are really disappointing sometimes.
Like this? This kid is just getting up for his first time.

Yes, except that boat is about 3X farther away than the one that was following us. Our "shadow" wasn't even outside of our froth. That's why I was so angry about it.

after these stories... I think it might be time to start loading my Potato Gun into the boat when we head out... It might work pretty well as a dumb@$$ deterrent! And... The rounds are biodegradable lol

On Pend O'reille that's pretty rare! The worst we usually see are the lake lice (sea doos) trying to jump our wake on the weekends.

One got awfully close when I was riding a few years back. I thought he was just trying to get a good view of me riding. Turned out he wanted to show off and get closer to the better part of the wake. When I bailed on a double up he rode through the center of the chop trying to hit the peak of the waves not 20 feet from me. I yelled at him to back off and he gave me the finger. The boat came and picked me up and I got behind the wheel and we drove around chasing his wake for about a few minutes. I'm not usually the retaliatory type but this guy had my blood boiling

Having a 4000lb agile towboat on his a$$ seemed to smarten him up... The best part was that the sheriff's slip is right next to our house and he was just getting ready to go out when we pulled up to the dock. I know him pretty well and told him what happened. He gave me a bit of a look as to indicate I should have known better and said he'd take care of it. We saw him haul the guy off the water and write him a nasty ticket while we were enjoying a beer on our deck lol.

That kind of stuff is what pisses me off more than anything on the water. I hate hate hate when a boat gets close to my rider!

Took the words right out of my keyboard. We plan to use ice cubes with Wrist Rockets this year against the nonmigratory Canadian Geese that are destroying our lake by pooping enormous amounts of what amounts to fertilizer. People suggested paintballs, potatoes, etc. until we thought of ice, which is ecologically neutral to a lake and poses no threat to boats - especially after it melts.

The sad thing about this is, that in some states, such as VA, it is unlawful to not offer assistance to a stranded inoperable vessel in certain cases. I too would not offer a tow if the idiot treated me that way, I would hope that calling local law enforcement would get you off the hook of any charges because of the person in need behaviour.

What would you do, what if the situation was more critical and the guy was acting like that.......
I don't want to go to work, take me wake surfing instead!

It would have been fun to just let any of his crew that were being decent, normal humans to board your boat and take them back to the dock. Let the a$$ hat yelling at you stay on his boat to think about what he had done.

GOOD for you man, That kind of stuff gets my blood boiling too.

                        Another thing that does:
I was towing the boat when some jackass cuts me off. I was in the right lane drive next to parked cars and he decides he doesn't like his parking spot and swerves into my lane. I let him have it with my train horn. I stop at a red light and he jumps out and gives me the finger and stares me down. Funny thing is I rolled down all the windows just to show him that it is me and four of my buddies that could beat his face into the ground if we wanted to. It's funny how people act all tough when they can't be touched.

interesting story. I probably would have done the same thing. or the ewok solution. hard to say and depends on what was being yelled at me.

But I for sure would have finished my set. Good for you.

Those are called American Geese ... Same problem in north Idaho.

America's illegal immigrants from the north lol...... Such a drain on the economy and they're stealing all the American birds' jobs!

I would've finished my set as well and have in the past. I am the first one to stop and render aid and am generally a saftey concious person (nickname-safety dave - by friends on the water), but in this case I probably would've drove off and called the authorities.

I had a squirt (lake lice=jetski) incident two weekends ago, I was surfing, they wanted to watch and were 15-25' off the side I was surfing, their spray was almost hitting me, as I yelled at them, I fell and they drove off. I saw them later that day and explained that they were way to close, they had no clue.

I had a jetskier cut me off last summer while I was towing my dad on the wakeboard, he was wrong on two counts, crossed the bow of my boat and I missed his head by 10-15 feet as he crossed my path left to right and his jet wash covered my entire boat and everyone in it with water. My wife was sore for 3 days afterwards because she tensed up preparing to crash, she was the only one in the bow. Everyone else was looking rearward and had no clue until they got wet. I gave him a piece of my mind (wife was taking pics to get reg. #'s) as well as reported him to the authorities. He was wearing a wife beater, cut off blue jeans and sneakers.
