      It's looks foreign.

I know it's a fuel cooler but the whole contraption looks unique to everyone else's set up.

Looks like every other PM fuel cell ive seen/service. Why did you take it off? The few ive done, ive just pulled the bottom half off an pulled the filter element out. Its only tough cause its tight as hell to break loose.

Oh, yours was painted custom white as opposed to the normal PM gray.

Does the bottom half (lower half) spin off or pull off. Assuming I've taken the bottom center bolt off and lower the end bell where two lines go in and out.

Yea....Tim had the engine painted white when he ordered it.

It spins off and has an oring seal that should be included in the new filter kit. The element can be changed in the boat on the 340, but I cant say the same about the 6.0. But I imagine, if you where able to pull the whole unit, you should be able to change the filter....Dom, KKO????

Looks like mine on a MP340. Like u said remove the bolt in the center bottom of the canister then the plate for the cooling lines comes off then it spins off . Like chp said I change mine while it is still in the boat and it is a pain to break loose.

Spins off and it's a b**chhhhhh. I had to put mine in a vise.

There should be one bolt in the bottom center that drops the bottom plate then the bottom half spins off. Should need to take it out of the boat. I didn't when I changed mine last year.

I was a lucky one, I used an oil wrench and it came off rather easy.

Thank you very much for the inputs.....yes, spin off, but this puppy dog was NOT coming off inside the boat 3' down under. It's taking my full body weight to get it loose and I'm still working on it, on a vise of course.

                        Good God!

Can I apply grease so it comes off easier the next time??

I would not recommend anything, BUT if one was to apply anything, it should be nothing but 100% silicone grease. anything petroleum based will cause the rubber oring to swell and soften.

                            3 hours later, 200lbs of dead force....now to re-install.

Why doesn't the cartridge want to come out easily??

Now, taking the filter element out one would think it should just drop out. Nope! Yank on it because it's held in with a rib. Of course doing this 3 feet down inside your engine compartment could prove a knuckle buster of which you might think your a knuckle for attempting this task yourself.

This is where maintenance cost go sky high having someone else do this type of service. What a job! It feels good to be at the 50 yard line.
