    Inline Fuel Filter?

Got my boat out on the lake for the first run of the season yesterday. Started up great and accelerated great until I hit ~30mph. Then the engine started sputtering out. Thottled down and boat started running good again until I got back up to 30mph again. Repeated this multiple times. Only happens under load. I can rev the engine up and no sputtering. After reading some chat lines, I changed out my fuel filter/water seperator. No improvement. My next step was to change out my inline fuel filter. No one has this available in my area (PN 35-864572) and special order is $57. I talked to my local O'Reilly autoparts store and they cross referenced this to a WIX filter (PN 33481) for $15. Anyone have any experience with WIX filters? Should I trust this filter or hold out and pay extra for the Mercruiser brand?

    Boat: 2003 20V
    Engine: 350 MAG MPI

WIX makes quality products. Are you sure the problem is not bad gas?

Can't rule out bad gas. Filled up the tank at the end of the season and added stabilizer. What's the best way to treat bad gas?

          Siphon it and replace it.

Fuel flow restriction would have been my first guess too, given your symptoms. The inline filter isn't the only one, you know. What engine do you have? Carbed or injected? You could still have a fuel flow limitation.

I had a similar issue recently. I ended up checking my plugs and found 3 of the 8 were fouled. Upon replacement I had full power again. I replaced my filter with one from napa it was for fuel injected engines and ran me bout $14.

                Good luck

same thing with our boat this weekend. No top end power. It wasn't sputtering or anything, simply no top end balls 08 Marine Power 6.0L. Time to get in there and replace plugs and fuel filter.

Picked up fuel filter from Fortes Inboard and replaced it in a jiffy.

Tried blowing through the old filter.....yep! Restricted!

Next.........on to that deaded water/fuel seperator.
