Running like crap

Everytime we go out lately the boat starts rough (will not idle).

I have to rev it up for a little then it will start to run smoother. But today it would not run smoother. Evertime I went high rpm to nuetral it would die. It seems there is a idle control sensor plugged or somthing. If any one has ideas let me know. I got 18 hrs tell im on the water again. Thanks

Carb engine? Try some carb cleaner when the engine is running, and some seafoam in the gas. If that doesn't clear it up I would be leaning to a rebuild on the carb. If its EFI then I would just try seafoam in the gas and then get some expert help.

Black or grey smoke (unburned fuel) usually either Manifold air temp sensor, engine coolant temp sensor or fuel pressure regulator. If it just doesn't idle without a crack of the throttle, it's the idle air control valve which can be cleaned but usually needs to be replaced. Give us some more symptoms and details for clarification.

I had a little black hose on top of the motor that came off. Once I put that back on it ran great. Did some serious surfin today.

Glad it's fixed. Corroded cap and rotor can cause the same problem as well.
