Boat Repair in Havasu City

I have a '07 24VE that needs the steering cable replaced. Look for a good, reputable, boat service in Havasu City. I have priced the job with Tige and a good San Diego repair shop and the job looks to be about $550-$600.

How handy are you when it comes to mechanical stuff. $200 and you can do it yourself, its not too bad. The hardest part is fishing the line from under the helm and under gas tank but, if you have some wire, not flexible and use on snow chains( I forgot what it is called) it is really easy. 1-2 hour job.

Did they say what size of cable was needed. I also have a 2007 24ve and need a new cable. I plan on doing the work myself.

Supreme Tige Master-you make this look so easy and yes, I am very mechanical so we are going to give it a whirl. do you recommend getting the cable from Tige? Also I believe the original cable in place is zip tied throughout the boat, when we replace do we just lay it loose on top of gas tank or somehow secure it?

Hahaha - just because I've posted enough to have that title, doesn't mean I actually know that much

You could probably order it from your nearest Tige dealer, but there are a lot of places that sell them. The how-to thread noted above lists several suppliers toward the end of the thread. Also, you can probably find the correct length somewhere in that thread if the markings on your current cable aren't legible.

I purchased mine from Andrew Haney (username SPBFan here on TO). His contact info is at www.automarinecare.com . I would suggest getting the Extreme version of the cable that is mentioned in the how-to thread, as it is supposed to be more corrosion resistant.

Regarding the zip ties - mine wasn't secured that way from the factory (except up around the helm). Mine just lays loose on top of the fuel tank. But if you want to secure it, it shouldn't cause any problems as long as you don't cinch it down with any tight radius bends.

It should be tele-flex brand that you can buy or order from any marine shop. probably a lot cheaper than a tire dealer.

I've always used JC Marine down in the south side of Havasu.

I threw one in on a mastercraft I used to have before I figured out that they aren't tiges......Pretty "easy". Just pull the old one. It can be a pain, it's a pretty stiff cable. Once you get it out, measure it. Order the same length (teleflex) and throw the new one in in the same way you took the out the old one. Don't kink it. Looking at my rz2, I'd probably recommend fishing it up to the helm first starting at the gas tank. Then, fish it down to the rudder. I can't remember how I got the one in the mastercraft. Nothing but a bit of elbow grease. Good luck.
