    relocate taps switch to dash?

How many of you guys have relocated there taps switch out of the throttle handle and into the dash? Im thinking about doing this to avoid having a short in the wires again. Any input or pics would be great.

I have not done that, haven't heard of it really.

But my X45 had the trim tab switch on the dash and I found it painful compared to how my Tige was. I much preferred it on the throttle, because I could easily adjust throttle and TAPS at the same time. Usually an adjustment in one, requires and adjustment in the other, so having to leave the throttle to do TAPS was so unnatural to me.
    Be excellent to one another.

I put mine up in the dash and just put on a regular ball on the throttle. I never touch mine though. It stays on #4 .

I haven't done it yet, but if I ever have to mess this those tiny wires again, I'll put it on the dash. I started to do it and decided against it, but like I said screw messing with those tiny wires again.

I did it two years ago. If you have perfect pass no need to have it on the throttle. Moved after I fixed the wires the second time.

I do agree with you that its nice to have on the throttle as you are playing with both at the same time.

Yes goose I'm thinking about your idea to relocate on the dash and yes I do have perfect pass so I agree that you don't need to adjust speed so much once set and if you do its just a push of a button to speed up or down. Did you use the same switch? Where did you put yours?

That's how it used to be before 1997. It was a great invention to put it in the throttle. Just find a picture of one before 1997 to see how they used to do it.

Yeah I like that its in the handle but sounds like its an bit of a project to get the throttle handle out of the boat to work on the wiring and I have no idea how it comes out. So that's why im thinking about putting it in the dash.

If it is anything like my 2001, The center pivot of the throttle is hollow and the wire just goes through. It's not integrated into the throttle assy at all. Just clip the wires leaving a long pig tail at the switch and pull it through. The throttle assy is easy to remove just make sure the cable adjustments are correct or else the throttle will be super hard to operate.

I will have to look again but I think mine may be different because it looked like it runs inside the handle all the way down and out the assembly which is behind the panel.
