    LEDs And Laws

Well I took out my 2100 this weekend to Lake Norman, had a blast until I got arrested and charged for impersonating an emergency vehicle because of my LEDs that do not strobe.

$215 fine and $200 to get it out of impound. The cop refused to let me off with turning them off and writing a warning.

He stated that the only lights you are allowed to have are the green and red nav lights and a stern light. I was also told that Tige's location for the stern light, by the steering wheel and walkthru on my year, was illegal as well.

So I said GTH Lake Norman and went to High Rock and everyone absolutely thought they were amazing, even the fishermen were coming up talking to me Heres some pics finally after waiting a year to get to see them.

Wow! That is a seriously bright boat! Can't believe they impounded it. Were you being a smart azz to the cop or something or they just trying to set a "Holiday" example?

Sounds like the guy he stopped before you really pissed him off - or you did . Did he pull you and the boat off the water?

I was extremely nice as I was trying to avoid any trouble and having to waste money by giving it to them. From what everyone that I have told has said, is that at LKN on holidays they try to get everyone for any little thing to make money and try to discourage tourists. I would think it would be the opposite. They pulled me off the water and to the wildlife office where i was charged and my friends came to get me. Had to wait to the next day to get the boat out of their slip. COMPLETE BS if you ask me!!! The officers at High Rock Lake said they were considered off road lights and the lake is off road so they said to run them, they liked them and said in their opinion I was safer than anyone at night as long as I wasnt strobing them or trying to pull people over.

Id love to see where in the handbook it states that they are not allowed.

Certainly sounds like he was just trying to generate some revenue.

            Bright lights

Seems that many like to make up their own rules.

              Lights look awsome.

Was reading the OK boat manual and it says you have to have at least the factory light (sidelights red green and all around white light or stern light) but it doesnt say a thing about having extra lights or colors that your not suppose to have. And far as the all around white light is concerned it says stern light but doesnt specify a length only 3.3 ft higher than the sidelights, my light is right by walk through too. Sounds more like you just got an *sshole that pulled you over. Might be time to call his boss see what the heck is up

Its amazing that the NC Wildlife office cant find anywhere it says that what I have is illegal on a boat. On the highway you are not allowed to light up blue or red but nowhere is it written that off road vehicles are not allowed to have them. Wonder what action they are going to take with it now?

Ok, first of all....your boat looks exactly like mine except I don't have the rub rail lights installed yet. My rub rail lights will consist of 350 hi intensity LED lights machined into the SS rail, then hooked into a mini computer where I can create light patterns of any array or MIDI sync. With that said, this basically says I'm strobing, which means that I'm impersonating an emergency vehical, (off road I guess??) which means I'm looking for trouble. Big trouble.

This is a situation that is very ugly.

My heart pours out to you for the hell this clown put you through.

Just curious, what brand or product did you purchase for your rub-rail lights??
