    Teak Swim Deck Bouncing/Floating?

    Hey guys,

I have a little issue that has been bugging the hell out of me lately. I have a teak swim deck on my '99 21v Riders Edition. I have noticed when stopped or parked, the swim deck seems to clunk up and down within the mounting brackets on the boat. If the boat encounters any rollers/waves the back end will lift up, causing the platform to drop down (CLUNK), and then when the back end sinks back down a bit the platform wants to float, causing another CLUNK. It is non stop and really alloying when trying to just hang out (it is pretty loud and vibrates the whole boat.)

Has anyone come up with a fix for this? It just apprears to be slop between the mounting brackets on the platform and the brackets on the boat. HELP before I go NUTS!

Can you put some spacers in the brackets to eliminate the play?

I am not sure how I would do that. They use a very strange mounting bracket and 3 pins to lock in. I wish I had some pictures to show... I was hoping this was a common issue

If you’re talking about the quick mount (remove a pin and slide the swim deck up for removal) you can try adding some Mylar as a spacer to make it tighter, or what I did was replace the pins with larger shoulder bolts. (Larger in diameter) this snuggled my swim deck impale.
Tige, it's a way of life!

There is a remedy that involves threading a bolt into the bottom of the platform bracket. Not sure if it applies here. That snugs up my 2009ve quite well.

Yes, this is what I am referring to. Do you know what size shoulder bolts you used?

So do you mean drilling and tapping a hole on the bottom of the actual platform bracket then threading a bolt and washer on to almost pull the bracket down?

Not quite. First off, mine is a fiberglass swim deck so not sure if it's applicable. First, drill a hole in the bottom of the bracket attached to the boat. Then, thread a bolt into that which will apply pressure to the mount attached to the swim platform which keeps the swim platform mount pressed tightly against the pin and this newly installed bolt. I can take some pics of mine when I'm home later if you want.

That would be much appreciated - I think I know what you are getting at but would like to see yours before I get brave and start drilling

Mine too and I have a teak platform. I noticed those bolts on a newer Tige so I did mine. Well worth the time and cost for two bolts. No washers required.

Found some pictures that I had to send the Doctor for my FAE.

I can feel ours when I am doing rope duty while surfing. I sit on the back with my feet on the platform. Couldn't do that without the FAE. Mine is just not that loose. You could try putting a thin layer of silicone on the male part and then assembling and letting it dry. That way it would act as a spacer. Might be a bugger getting it back off though.

I used some layers of electrical tape on the male portion (transom side) of the brackets. This took a majority of the rattle out of the swim platform for me.

Thanks rmason. Was just about to load some pics and still can if needed, but mine look the same.
