Ballast Pump - Help on Locating the Right Pump

So Mike hooked me up with a ginormous surf sac that I plan to piggyback onto the hard tanks. The problem is there is only one pump that I estimate would take 20 minutes or so to fill.

I do not want to run additional switches or drill another seperate line to run this bag independent - with that being said are there any high flow pumps or other recommendations to help fill and drain this a bit faster. The easiest solution would to get two faster pumps assuming they can make a noticeable impact

Obviously Mike is the man to ask but, what pump do you have now? What size are all the fittings? What type of intake do you have now?

You current OEM pump is either 1000 or 1100 GPH, cant remember exactly. You are looking at about 15 minutes to fill or drain.

The problem with going with a higher volume pump is finding one that will A) physically fit the available space, and B) mate to the .75 threaded thru-hull. A larger volume pump will have a larger inlet. So reducing down to fit the current fittings will restrict its flow. Thats taking a step back.

Let me do a little digging and see, but I think the best option is going to be to leave the factory plumbing alone and give the new sac its own fill and drain plumbing. I think we can do this with little hole cutting.

I know Malibu upgraded their puns to 1200gph and increased the hose diameter to 1 inch. This drastically cut down on fill times. I wonder if simply going to the larger diameter hose would help. I plan on doing this upgrade in the offseason to ours.

Im my testing, it was actually the larger sac fittings, not the larger hose that produced the increase in flow. With the Fly High sac, its easy to upgrade to 1" hose and 1" sac fittings, but with an OEM hard tank, may not be so easy.

Good info right there chp! I was a bit disappointed in the fill times on the Tige when we demoed. Would love to decrease them.

Do you now if the Tige Touch has additional switch locations that are open for use in the ballast section. I do not remember seeing this option and hate the idea of putting a manual switch in.

I showed my dealer the bag and he about flipped out over how big it was. I told him Mike is the man for all ballast needs and I am sure he'll be giving you a buzz in the future. Thanks again!

Provided you have the single bow sac, you can use one of the fill pumps for it to run to your new sac. I realize this doubles the fill for your bow but even with one pump it will fill before your surf sac. The benefit is that you do not have to cut any new holes. I did this to mIne and it works great.

That's an interesting idea - I wonder if you could piggy back off both the rear and the front? Nonetheless, in theory you are right due filling 400lbs versus 550lbs (250 hard tanks, plus 300 lbs surf sac).

I'll add some of these details in my ballast instal thread but I added a big fly high sac on top of the factory hard tank. As noted, the factory hoses are 3/4" and Chpthrill sent me 1" hose to use to fill and drain the new sac. I ran new pumps from a manifold on the factory thru-hulls for the opposite sides, so I mounted the new pump for the port sac on the factory starboard thru-hull and vice-versa. I routed the vent lines from the factory hard tanks to an extra fill port on the new sacs and I drilled new thru-hulls for vent lines from the new sacs. The new pumps are Attwood Tsunami 800s, the factory pumps are Rule 1000s. It took about 6 minutes to fill the factory hard tanks and the new W719, which is about 1,000 lbs total. I have two small leaks to tighten up but the system worked as advertised. I also wired up the pumps to work on the same factory switches, so to fill the port rear locker, I fill the port aft ballast with the factory pump on the port side and the new pump on the starboard manifold, but wired into the port aft switch, so my dash still looks factory. I have family in town so I'm a little slow to respond on TO this weekend but I'll give some good details on how I got a 3/4" hose from the factory drain to connect to a 1" fitting on the bag.

I would love to know what the ID is on the in-floor tank. I have a .75 thread x 1 HB that would allow for the use of 1" from the pump, but connecting to the tank may be tricky. The surf sacs would be easy as well, just swap out the W736 sac fitting for the W743 and swap the 1" and W746 female quick-conns. This might improve the flow rate to the sac, but the tank is still the unknown.

If you want pull the floor and get some pics and measurements, Id love to work with you on the upgrade.

we have 1000+ lb bag and fills in about 6-7 mins and love that. out today for some fun too. Chpthril is the man.
