Steering Cable on 2006 22ve ugh...

OK I have done my research on the boards and had everything printed off ready to go. the How to was great and should have made this job a simple one.

Not sure if I did something wrong or if my boat is an anomaly.

I for the life of me could not get the new cable ran through the hull. I think it comes down to the size of my gas tank. It is a 48 Gallon Tank that runs a good ways past the hole under the drivers compartment where the cable is run through. This caused the angle to be impossible to get past the tank.

Anyone else ran into this problem? I don't know if this tank was the in the early model change only as I don't see 48 listed anywhere except the RZ4 of 2007.

My resolve was to make the hole under the driver compartment larger to get the angle where I could get the cable through the area.

Do you have pics to see if it is similar to mine? I had issues but was able to get it. I posted some information in the how to section.

I didn't take any pics. Not much to see it was just the tank going way up the bow.

I was surprised to see the 48 gallons on the 22ve. If I had room to maneuver the long metal shaft I could have been able to get it wired through. What was your resolution to the problem?

OK I just ran all the way through the 9 pages of the how to. It looks like I am not the only one to have to expand the size of the hole to get the long end through the opening.

I just hope I don't ever need a new gas tank. It looks to be almost impossible to get out. I really think they installed it before they put the v-drive in. It is too long to get out as it is. We took off the blocks holding the tank down along with the hoses and couldn't get it more than 4 inches off the base.

Been there and done that. I had the same problem; it was a physical impossibility to get new cable through the hole. I also had to enlarge the hole where it passes through.

Not sure how engineers that design cars and boats sleep at night. The must have chanting dreams of "make it fit, make it fit," who cares if it can't be serviced...... by that time it needs to be it wont be my problem.........
