    TAPS Help

When we initially picked up the RZR, TAPS worked but the gauge didn't work. At the 25hr service my dealer replaced the actuator and it worked perfectly the first time out after the service.

The 2nd time out, TAPS didn't work at all, not even a click when you hit the button on the shifter. Before taking it out the next time I checked out everything and finally found a white connector under the dash that was loose and had a label, hand written 'T.A.' (it may be T.R.-kinda hard to tell). I disconnected it and plugged it back in firmly and TAPS worked again.

When we got out on the water, I calibrated it and all seemed well at first. My wakeboarding profile has TAPS set to 2. My first time up I noticed the boat porposing badly. I tried to signal to my wife to adjust the TAPS but we hadn't worked on that hand signal so she began to get frustrated so I just had her stop. She said TAPS was on 4. We killed the profile, set the speed and manually set TAPS to 2. Once under way again, TAPS went to 3!

Yesterday we went out for a little bit and while the TAPS actuator seemed to work, the gauge would bounce all over the place. I calibrated it several times but it didn't make a difference. It almost seems like the plate is moving while underway for some reason. The wake was very inconsistent no matter what we did.

Any suggestions? Could the actuator or plate be loose and moving? Is the pump possibly low on fluid or has a leak and can't keep the actuator in place? I'm really hoping its something simple so we don't have to fight it all weekend!

Sounds like your dealer might need to fix and water test for you.

X2 on what Timmy said, I would also check the fluid level with the plate up. I had the same issue it was the fluid level.

It sounds like a Touch issue to me.

Taps itself is a very basic system and been produced for many years with very few issues. The throttle switch only controls the hydraulic pump and the wire coming out of the ram is just for the gauge.

I've never heard of one acting like yours. The Touch systems are fairly new and I suspect it if taps seems to work until you put it in control of the Touch, there might be an issue with it freakin out and sending out random commands to the pump.

Did the dealer check the new ram in conjunction with the touch.

Wait. I just reread it. The loose wire. TR as in Taps Relay? Did the dealer replace it?
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Mine does the same thing. Had them look at it at the 25 hour service. It help but some times I can adjust it still and it will still bounce all over.

OK, couple of questions: what type of fluid does it take, where do you fill it, and how do you know if it is low?

They just take ATF, DexMerc III. I'm not sure where your reservoir is but, I'm thinking its behind the back wall in the rear compartments. I would say Starboard side. It's a small white container. It should have fill marks on it.

Hmm, I'm not sure but I'll ask. Where is the TAPS Relay located? Is it a relay specific to TAPS or is it something I can get and replace myself? I believe they just replaced the ram because the sensor was not reading the position correctly.

I'm starting to think it may be an issue with fluid in the TAPS pump and it potentially not having enough pressure to keep the ram in place.

The TAPS pump is in the starboard locker next to the battery. Is the reservoir built into it or is it somewhere else?

                    Nevermind. The search tool works.

HoustonShark, did you ever get the TAPS issue resolved? Mine only moves from 1 to 8 (I have a '12 RZ4), nothing in between (even after the calibration). The factory just sent me a new RAM, but I didn't want to start that install without asking the experts on our forum....

My taps is working fine (3 hours on it, me demoing it 3 times) but its leaking red fluid on the outside of the transom. We just noticed this tonight.

Sorry, I just saw this. My ram was also replaced which resolved the issue.

my gauge doesn't move at all. I can see the wake adjust so as suggested above, the ram works with the throttle switch, but the signal is not getting passed on upstream. dealer stated they had the same issues with their rz2 demo boat. going in next week for a fix..
